Joe Jackson crushed it in that World Series and his level of education and intelligence wasn’t super high. He couldn’t read or write - couldn’t even sign his own name. Baseball has purposely tried to forget it - but Honus Wagner and Ty Cobb both were accused of throwing games for money by other players. The league “investigated” it and after the players denied it, quickly sided with the players…. Who then were traded/released by their respective teams. Cheating has been a big part of the greatest game for 150 years. The Hall of Fame is full of them too… Hal Chase was the first great first basemen and he threw games for money. He is in the Hall of Fame…. Gaylord Perry gloated about cheating… David Ortiz said he failed a PED test… Whitey Ford cheated on every single pitch… Yogi Berra helped Ford cheat.
Maybe he shouldn't have been a degenerate gambling addict shitbag and maybe not bet on the one sport he was VERY involved with? There were many other sports to bet on. Oops. BTW: there's about 5 NCAA team investigations of players playing internet casino on their games
When a situation calls for a #1, special players always find a way to get it done. Despite often seeming to flow naturally, it is their ability and determination to hold it in long enough to measure the risk vs. reward of avoiding vs. accepting any strain or messy stain until such time as they can release it with just adequate enough force and precision in order to flush away the competition - all while staring varying degrees of pressure in the face, mind you - that allows them to enjoy the consistently healthy, regular stream of success such as that which we happily lap up more and more the closer that approaches the collective yearning to quench our voracious thirst for but a taste of rejoice's richness that - once gulped deeply from the chalice of victory to leave our gullets filled - in whose spill then o'er our blessed heads are we anointed and with gleeful splash baptized by eternal glory as we bathe in jubilation and shower in ecstasy as it pours down the warmth of its golden prize. Moises Alou, for example, was said to have excelled at executing the particular tool currently under discussion.
Says the person who literally started out in D&D right away when they joined and is a clear troll account lol.
Which was what I was said. Then told- show you work so I did it comprehensively. then told- reading is hard.
To make it super simple: 84 pitcher in HOF Schilling is 27th in war 23rd in jaws Era+ of average HoF is 130- schilling 127 Winning percentage of average HoF 59.1; schilling 59.6 3 cy young runner ups and 1 4th place post season line- 11-2 with a 2.4 era. if that’s too much we could next try interpretive dance or you could say you didn’t really care when you asked the question.
Rent free! This type of response just further demonstrates my point. Enjoy the next four years, I know I will.
Aaaaaight...I'll give you this one. He pitched 20 years (managed to win 216 games!), long enough/enough innings to accumulate some stuff. And when he was good, he was very, very good. Will they put a bloody sock on his Philly hat?
It is interesting to think what hat he would wear. He was in Philly the longest but less than 1/2 his career. His apex was with AZ. The bloody sick which went into baseball lore happened in Boston where it capped the only 0-3 comeback. my personal HOF preference is you should be able to earn your way in either through compiling a shitload of stats or having an awesome peak (within reason). When you do both that should make you a no doubt guy that sails in and is better than most already there.
Yeah, with the increase in sports betting popularity and apps this is going to continue to happen regularly. And those are just the ones being caught. College sports especially I’d be wary about. Back to Pete Rose though…don’t know how I missed this until last night but apparently he was having sex with a 14-15 year old girl when he was in his 30s?
Well if Clemens and Bonds get a pass from you because they did steroids after they were HOF locks, then Rose should get a pass from you too. Bonds did put up video game numbers late in his career that he wouldn’t have otherwise. Clemens revived his career with steroids and they both made lots more money than they would’ve made without steroids. Also, Bonds was a total a-hole and Clemens not much less of one.
