Filmmaker Scott Derrickson (“Sinister,” “The Black Phone”) returns with “The Gorge,” a tale that’s not so much horror as a genre mash-up of action, espionage thriller, sci-fi, romance and horror.

Miles Teller, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Sigourney Weaver lead the cast of the film as two highly-trained snipers (Teller and Taylor-Joy) appointed to posts in guard towers on opposite sides of a vast and highly classified gorge.

Their mission? To protect the world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within. They bond from a distance, an evolving connection that could turn into something more, all while trying to stay vigilant in defending against an unseen enemy.

When the cataclysmic threat to humanity is revealed to them, they must work together in a test of both their physical and mental strength to survive and keep the secret in the gorge before it’s too late.

Zach Dean (“The Tomorrow War,” “Fast X”) penned the film which is produced by Derrickson, Dean, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Gregory Goodman, and Don Granger.

“The Gorge” is skipping cinemas and premiering directly on the Apple TV+ service on February 14th.

Went in cold not knowing much about the movie, other than recognizing the two lead stars. The premise started interesting and appreciated the sci-fi mystery that is later revealed.

    grade: B+

Seems like a good premise. Had a good cast and some good visuals, but overall was pretty hamfisted with how they told the story. Some of the dialogue just sounded bad, so the writing was a little iffy. Like others mentioned, go into just expecting a popcorn movie and you can still enjoy it. I was hoping for more.

If you liked the movie read the short story by Stephen King. It’s incredible (mist not gorge)

It was alright, I’d give it a 6 out of 10.

That was a movie that really deserves either a sequel or a top budgeted tv series. Just so many questions. Edit- I see that there was a single season of a TV series that came out in 2017. I’ll have to check it out.
