Probably correlated with jobs cut and/or "pain and suffering" caused.

    That title is misleading.

That stated, as one of the few remaining of the dead fiscal conservative movement, SS benefits should be cut. One of the biggest outcomes of this DOGE stuff that not enough talk about is creating this massive mathematically impossible lie that too many MAGA idiots will take at face value, that somehow slashing federal employees and contracts will eliminate the budget deficit. Our futures are screwed no matter who is in charge when no one is able to have the true hard discussions and make the hard tradeoffs.

Its not misleading, when you cut staff in half that does effect SS. Its not rocket science or hard math.

SS should not be cut, tax the rich first and then we'll talk. All this BS about fiscal responsibility Republicans never have been. They are adding to the deficit RIGHT NOW.

Yes, raise taxes, cut SS, cut Medicare, cut Medicaid, cut military spending, it all should be on the table. There are very hard discussions that people should have, but politicians avoid it. The last presidents to care about this and do it well were Bush Sr. and Clinton.

Agree to disagree that your title is misleading. Sure, it reasonably could lead to slower SS approvals and denials, but the action of cutting staff in itself is not cutting benefits, and the thread title implies a straight benefits cut. Not a big deal though.

Millions have no saving and will be living in the streets without food. It's a moral obligation at this point. The only solution to the deficit is taxation of corporations, elimination of loopholes and a 1-2% tax on incomes over $10million/yr.

Might be the first sensible thing you have ever said.
You dont know what bloat is, you have no experience, you have no evidence, you have no authority or expertise on the matter, you have Elon's word, thats it. And if you cut in agency in half, that drastically affects how an organization can run, very simple math.

That is taking aim at social security, point blank.

It might or might not affect people collecting their benefits. I don't have a basis to know. I'll wait until we actually see service degrade and then criticize.

Food is not an issue in the country. The only people starving is the people who eat **** food like chipole every day of their lives, depriving their body of proper nutrients.

There is zero political will for this.

The easiest solution is to raise taxes to cover expenses. And then if people want a tax cut, they cut expenses first. And there is zero chance of this happening.

What we really should be doing is raising taxes to cover expenses + 10% for debt pay down.

BTW, there are already "cuts" in SS and Medicare. They more money you make in retirement, the more expensive Medicare is and the more taxed SS benefits are.

    You have never been poor.

Congratulations on your good fortune! ... and your complete lack of empathy for those less fortunate than yourself!

You are a true idiot. I was raised in poverty. There was always food available. It wasn't highly nutritious or great food. The vast majority of meals were bland. Going out to eat at fast food was considered a great treat.

I would like you to take your dumb ass to the store and try an experiment. Go up to random people and tell them you haven't eaten in a couple days and all you want is a loaf of bread and store brand peanut butter.

We have SNAP and food banks. Your dumbass believes not being able Uber Eats a $50 Chipotle bowl everyday is starving.

    I'm with you on that.
Been paying in since I was 16. I'm 57 now. 41 years if my math is correct. I would however take a lump sum payout at 65 and throw it into my differed comp account or 401K.

I don't have a problem giving people the option to accept a lump payment. I do have a problem if people don't have a right to choose what happens to their contributions and taxes payed out for decades. I knew a few people who took the lump sum payouts to leave the military before retirement. I'm glad I didn't. It's a risk that can backfire, especially if you are in an occupation with an age cutoff in the civil sector.

Part of my childhood I was in a food insecure home. There were nights my brother and I went to bed hungry. Most nights my mom went to bed hungry. My dad was out busting his ass looking for a job that covered the expenses, so he ate. We never went out for dinner, even for fast food, you lucky b*stard.

1 in 7 children live in a food insecure home.

How Many Kids in America Go to Bed Hungry?

According to the latest estimates, as many as nearly 14 million children in the United States live in "food insecure" homes.
