In other words, instead of admitting the obvious, I'll throw out a bunch of useless info that mean nothing. How in tf is VORP gonna help when Reed is out there having circles run around him every time he steps on the floor? These bs stats that you've gone and dug up mean nothing. Our eyes are telling us that Castle is a major part of a good team. They also tell us that "Reed is looking more and more like a bust".
Agreed that Reed is looking bad regardless of what advanced stats say (and most other catch-all stats don't help him like VORP does a little bit--even VORP has him slightly below replacement level). I wouldn't really call the Spurs a "good team" though, they're 24-32 after only missing Wemby for a few games Castle looks OK for a rookie. Better than Reed. Not going to beat myself up about missing on that one though--we still have the much-better version of everything he brings (Amen).
Reed may look like a bust, but Castle is neither "major part" of the Spurs nor are the Spurs a "good team." More apt description of Castle is that he's a "rotational piece playing decently for a lottery team."
The reason I call him a major part of a good team is because he is making game winning shots and blocks. Some things that many vets have not done. A major part of a team does not have to be a starter. Rotational players are necessary. Also the Spurs are still good enough to make the playoffs. It will take a good run but not impossible.
I don't watch the Spurs at all, and even missed all but one of their Rockets games. But according to NBA.com clutch stats, in the last 30 seconds of a close game (defined here by 5 point differential or less), Castle has a FG% of 0%, and 0 Blocks 0 Steals in that time frame. He also has a +/- of -1.4. So either nba.com's stat is missing something, you are really really stretching the concept of "game winning."
It makes sense if you realize that he goes entirely off of vibes rather than what is actually happening on a basketball court.
Summary of Spurs this season: 1) Wemby is a chucker but a problematic defender for everyone else. 2) Castle+Sochan is a ****ing disaster of a pairing.
Reminds me of the Reed Sheppard many on Clutchfans wanted when we drafted him. I still can't stop laughing at ROTY talk before the season
He is a major part of the Spurs ask any Spurs fan or anybody who follows their team. His face is there on the posters alongside Wemby.
What is not playing him doing to his trade value? We knew he was tiny and likely to be a defensively liability before we drafted him. Seems like a pick that should have been traded for more picks down the line.
no he wouldn’t because he’s worse at that than all of our guys. Reed got a smidge of minutes because he theoretically is strong where the team is weak, castle is horrendous at the stuff the rockets need and even the stuff he’s better at, is worthless with this roster
Castle is a better defender than Reed Sheppard. Better shooter from 3 too. I know everyone wants to drag Castle down but sorry to say he is better than Reed no matter how much he has sucked.
If Castle can get some consistency with his shooting he's going to be a solid player. He creates problems on defense.
