James Carville predicts Trump, GOP are in ‘midst of a collapse’ — and gives them 4 to 6 weeks to fully implode

    https://nypost.com/2025/02/23/us-ne...p-republicans-are-in-the-midst-of-a-collapse/

    excerpt:

Renowned Democratic strategist James Carville has delivered a stunning prediction that the Trump administration is in the “midst of a collapse” and will crumble within four to six weeks.

Carville, 80, on Friday urged his fellow Democrats to play “possum,” clear out of the way and let Republicans implode as President Trump plows ahead with his dramatic overhaul of the federal government.

“It seems that the angrier Democrats get, the more it feeds into exactly what Donald Trump and Elon Musk and some of these other folks want,” Carville mused to Mediaite founder Dan Abrams.

“What I have said very publicly is that Democrats need to play possum. This whole thing is collapsing,” he said.

The elderly Dem guru was the top strategist in Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign, when Democrats soared back into the White House after 12 years of Republican rule.

His wild prediction comes mere months after Trump became the first Republican to win the popular vote in a presidential election in two decades, making gains in more than 90% of US counties.

Carville, who confidently proclaimed in October he was “certain Kamala Harris will win” and wrote a book in 2009 about how Dems would be the dominant party over the next 40 years, decried progressive hardliners who have a knack for being noisy.

“These people were just useless,” he bemoaned about certain progressive activist groups during the last election cycle. “They’re actually worse than useless, they’re detrimental. And they never, ever learn to shut up.

“I believe that this administration, in less than 30 days is in the midst of a massive collapse and particularly a collapse in public opinion.”

Citing polling data, Carville argued that Trump’s approval rating has been taking a nosedive and that within a matter of weeks, Republicans will be almost completely hobbled in Congress.

Why would they collapse when Pavlov's voters haven't received their Trump signed stimmies yet?

Post sugar-high is prob a better timeframe to predict.

I haven't seen much of Carville unless there's a GPT image prompt for "living rendition of Crypt Keeper".

People like Carville are why Democrats are as feckles as they are today. These old dudes need to step aside. They are just hot air at this point.

You know . . . i think you just gave me some insight

Republicans - They don't listen to young people about the message/platform. . . but will listen to them on how they will implement and distribute the message
Democrats - they will listen to young people about the message/platform . . .. but will not listen to them on how they will implement and distribute the message

    Thanks. . . . ..

4 to 6 weeks is obviously incredibly stupid, but there are problems in the offing Republicans need to plan for.

    1) There is no clear successor to the Trump throne and fanbase

    2) The coalition Trump won with in 2024 is very volatile and can be easily fractured

    3) There are a lot of big egos in the room right now and they all have a history of cannibalism

The question is does the chaos set in November 2026, or does it set in Summer 2028.

If the midterms are a disappointment for Republicans, I can very much see it all erupting into fingerpointing and backstabbing as the sun begins to set on Trump's tenure with no clear path forward.

JD Vance is actually better than I thought, he would be a great successor that without Trump would be alot more centric. Unless Dems completely overhaul and change their tune and by that I mean completely getting rid of the people that brought you Joe Biden and his ridiculous pursuit of chaos then I don't think Dems have a chance in 2028....

We're going to find out to what degree Trump controls the party going forward.

If the midterms are a bust and/or the economy hits the shitter then Trump's influence will wane and there will be a big power struggle resulting from it.

Conservative = MAGA...... MAGA is what happens when Dems attempt to force their craziness on conservatives and only one dude by the name of Trump decides to challenge it. A non professional politician with no filter....

This isn't NEW, well THAT new, but the long-going Trump comments about not having to vote again, Elon telling opposition he'll bury them at mid-terms, taking over the FBI, removing many women's right to vote at the 11nth hour through technicalities (maiden name vs real name), it's 100% coming. They'll try it. The KING stuff is just gross though, so unbelievably un-American, terrible branding.

James Carville was relevant in 1992. His calling card was expertise with Southern Democrats. Time has passed him by.

I guess he’s gotta define “implode” for that to make sense. Carville makes good points sometimes. Other times take it with a grain of salt.

His three keys to running a campaign as a Democrat though are still very relevant.

-Change vs more of the same
    -it’s the economy stupid
    -and don’t forget about healthcare

On the Trump implosion though… I’d say that the media propaganda bubble that people live in on the right will make that hard to believe. The pro billionaire grift though… as Trump and Elon force that to be at the top of peoples minds with what they are doing, and also seeing prices climb, it will soften Trumps support quite a bit… BUT Trump will always have a high floor because MAGA is truly a cult.

His people aren’t ever leaving him regardless even if he was on camera in the White House murdering Corgi puppies and eating them. So the term “implode” isn’t one I would use. Back to 2020 popularity sure… he’s pretty good at reminding people how terrible of a president he is if you take his word for it instead of getting the whitewashed version that the media likes to give in the campaign.

He's just trying to be relevant again.

But playing possum isn't a bad strategy.

Yeah I know there is ALOT of debate right now about how "The Democrats" should be louder, and more aggressive, and I tend to lean towards what Carville says here.

He's not saying that AMERICANS should be silent, and not fight. Quite the opposite. I think means Democratic Politicians should be letting the opposition happen organically, at town halls from regular people, etc. Don't let the narrative be "CHUCK SHUMER TRADES INSULTS WITH TRUMP" which i agree. Let the American people feel what Trump is doing directly to them right now, and let them own the initial response. Otherwise all of the swing voters out there will just constantly be reinforced with the "both sides" narrative. Trump has full control of the US government right now, and everything that happens these next 2 years is on him. Don't bail him out politically by presenting a narrative that lets him off the hook.

    So has his wardrobe.
Saw him on Cuomo show last week.
Wearing a ratty old LSU sweatshirt and a hat that looked like it was the dogs chew toy.
