We agree! Sengun was awful last night however, I think they need a rim running defender PERIOD, not to pair with him. I just don't know if you can just pair Sengun with any type 7ft, it has to be a certain type. He would have to be able to spread the court. I think it'll be easier to find just a rim running defender to pair with Jabari. It's hard to play defense if you don't have a backend defender. It's like a NFL Defense w/o having a good Safety or a MLB team with a weak Short Stop or Center Fielder
This is a good loss. This young team needed this. They’re gonna take this loss and it will fuel them to their next victory. No doubt about it. PS: We’re ahead of schedule anyways and we aren’t supposed to be here! There are no losses, just learning lessons. Trust Stone. Trust The Process. Spoiler
The past 3 weeks have been terrible -- terrible scheduling, terrible losses, and bad health. These 1-game home stands and road trips are the devil's work. How the hell did we get a b2b coming off the ASB after getting two extra days off before returning? Jumping on a plane then flying 1400 miles for a 1-game road trip after playing the previous night?!! Anyways, Jabari is back and hopefully FVV will return soon. The past 3 weeks have been brutal, but the Rockets are ahead of schedule this year. Let's hope this recent lull is behind them.
It’s not about knowing whether we would lose but realizing that the Jazz have a large frontline and they are a very good rebounding team while the Wolves are missing their starting center.
Your obsession with this idea is very outdated. It's not the way the NBA works anymore. Most teams don't just slap a big shotblocker back there and let him play drop coverage. Switching is the name of the game these days. One of the best defensive centers in the league (Bam) blocks the same number of shots that Sengun does. Most shotblocking big men have to switch outside and then cheat in off their man to help protect the rim--so basically the same thing you see guys on our team like Amen, Jabari, and Tari already doing. There's no reason a team can't protect the rim by committee in today's league--it's about how scary it is to drive inside, it doesn't matter how the opposing team makes it scary. By the way, we're already #12 in blocked shots in the NBA this season. We've already proven we can be an elite defense with Sengun, early on when everyone was healthy. We just need to get back to that.
Pretty much agree, but have two additions: 1) A nice switchable rim protector that covers ground well is nice to have. Chet, JJJ would work so well on this team. 2) When the Rockets get healthy, I don't expect them to go back to the way they were. I expect Amen is a starter, and the Rockets need to figure out how to defend with him as a starter.
