So what? Russia already borders Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Finland.

What does it matter if tomorrow it suddenly borders Hungary, Slovakia, Moldova and Romania?

This "slippery slope" bs is what got us into wars like Vietnam.

You would have been sitting here in 1965 saying "If we let the communists win in Vietnam all of SE will be communist so we have to fight this war"

So the communists won in Vietnam big whoop. Who cares?

So the Russians gobble up some smaller weaker neighbors on their borders? Big whoop. Who cares?

75% of Americans couldn't find Ukraine on a map or tell you it's capital is Kiev.

I am not shocked that trump is once again bending the knee to Putin, he is a REAL dictator, and trump is enamored with them, but I am a little surprised that the majority of the gop is not saying more, trump is too dumb to know the history of Russia or Ukraine. trump just makes himself look like a little b**** to putin, the EU knows he is a murderer who wont have "real" elections which is Ironic when the right uses the talking point of Ukraine not having elections LOL.....there hands are a tad tied due to being invaded. I think its hilarious the gop talking heads have to go out there and spin this that the prez loves putin and the rank-and-file folks who are maga now love them some Russians, our own maga brtheren on this board now love them some Russians. How spineless, let me ask this, if trump all of a sudden said he hated Mcdonalds, but you LOVE it, do you know how fast how maga would tweet out that they suck and we should now boycott them.....................It's OK maga folks, your allowed to speak your own thoughts

White House and Ukraine Close In on Deal For Mineral Rights
Agreement could help resolve tensions that flared up between Zelensky and Trump

By Alan Cullison, Alexander Ward, and James Marson
    Feb. 21, 2025 at 5:36 pm ET

The U.S. and Ukraine are nearing a deal that would hand valuable mineral rights to the U.S., an agreement that the Trump administration has sought as compensation for military aid to fight off Russia’s invasion, people familiar with the matter said.

Ukraine had refused to sign such a deal earlier this week, sparking a war of words between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and fears of a break in relations between Washington and Kyiv.

In an apparent nod to an impending deal, Zelensky said in a nightly video address Friday that teams of U.S. and Ukrainian negotiators were working on a draft agreement.

“This is an agreement that can strengthen our relations, and the key is to work out the details to ensure its effectiveness,” he said. “I look forward to the outcome—a just result.”

Zelensky was presented with a deal by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in Kyiv last week, but refused to sign, saying the Ukrainian side needed to study it further and that a deal should contain some form of security guarantees for Ukraine. Ukrainian officials said that they had only a few hours to study it before it was presented to them.

An agreement could be signed as soon as Saturday, although it is not yet complete, people briefed on the talks said. The exact terms could not be learned.

Asked about the prospect of a deal on minerals with Ukraine, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Friday: “I think they want it. They feel good about it.”

Trump is casting Zelensky to be the villian to get him to sign the mineral rights deal. Then, they can be friends again. It's not quid pro quo, though. It's "you scratch my back...I scratch your's".

Zelensky should give this idiot the mineral rights deal

Why? Because it's validating Trump's two bit extortion?

Well, no, but because Ukraine does not actually even have commercially significant amounts of rare earths or other materials.

Provided they can actually get Trump to honor his pledge, a piece of paper that says "USA entitled to up to $500 billion of rare earths! " would be absolutely hilarious because I read the entire global trade on rare earths annually (from countries that actually have them, unlike Ukraine) is.... $15b.

But sure, give him a claim to the first $500b. Hell make $500T

    From Tagtik:

A member of the European Parliament has claimed that Donald Trump has given Europe three weeks to sign Ukraine's "surrender."

Earlier this week, the United States and Russia began peace negotiations in Saudi Arabia without inviting Ukraine to the table.

As the conflict approaches its fourth year, Donald Trump is eager to reach a peace agreement quickly and is pressuring Ukraine to accept a deal negotiated without its involvement—an unthinkable option for Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In a post shared on X, Mika Aaltola, a Finnish parliamentarian from the European People's Party, wrote that the United States had issued an ultimatum to the European Union to "accept the terms of Ukraine's surrender."

The Nordic politician was referring to the bilateral agreement being negotiated exclusively between Washington and Moscow.

"Trump prioritizes Russia's security concerns now and in the future. Let them own their mess. We have three weeks to grow up," Mika Aaltola added.

EU wanted to bring in Ukraine for its gas. It's more than likely what made Putin invade Kiev.
    Now US gets something!
And Russia gets some things (land, children, etc...) too!!

When you make an investment in a failing company or country, the terms of the investment are very important. Do you give them money with no strings attached (like a fool)? Or should you structure the investment wisely, by asking for collateral or something to secure your investment? When a bank gives you money, do they do so with no strings attached? No they do not, they put a lien on your house or otherwise require you to pledge assets against the loan. This safeguards the bank in the event of non-payment.

In the case of the USA's hard-earned tax payer dollars being sent by Biden to Ukraine.... where Ukraine's drug-addled former-comedian midget dictator Zelensky has lost or wasted it in his losing war... Biden, like an inexperienced fool, required absolutely no security/collateral/pledge against the USA aid. Europe doesn't act this dumb. Europe provides aid in the form of loans and with guarantees. How has the USA provided aid before Trump? With no strings attached. Like a fool. That's changing with Trump, a highly competent executive, now in charge of the USA.

But remember, every dollar sent to Ukraine is lit on fire (literally) and wasted. Simply stopped the flow of funds to Ukraine and their losing war is a huge financial win for the taxpayers of the USA. If we decide to send the 4% approval Zelensky money, then AT LEAST secure it with assets, such as mineral rights, key pieces of infrastructure, ports, or land. This is basic business.

    GOOD DAY

I wouldn’t expect anything more out of an incompetent, proven liar/fraudster like yourself, but this is a comically idiotic way to think.

In what world does giving our tax dollars to other counties “just because” make sense to anyone?

Aren’t you the one that claims to own a business? Would you just give money to anyone for the heck of it? What a great way to fail, miserably.

I mean what's up with those NGOs who bring clean water to Africa or who care for homeless refugee children. How the heck do they make a profit? Fools!

I.E. The US Government is not a commercial business looking to make a profit. If it was, every time you left your house you'd be paying a toll to use those free public roads that you probably take for granted, or when your house was on fire, you'd have to sign a contract and get on a payment plan before the fire department put the fire out.
