the flu shot works for some and works against others. I rarely get the flu and 2 hours after I got my first flu shot in years, I started getting flu symptons that lasted for about two months. And then I have doctors tell me up and down that you can not get sick from it .... yeah ... uhh sure. I just so happened to get sick right after it.
I heard a NC infectious disease specialist on local talk radio yesterday talking about this very thing. He said that they find out what flu viruses are active in Asia (because that is where the virus that hits the US is most likely to come from) and then they try and figure out which one is most likely to arrive on our shores. Sounds like a lot of guessing to me. In the end, though, this doctor does choose to get a flu shot, so he's buffered by those 70% odds.
kerry's strategy here is part of his overall end-game strategy of instlling fear and panic in the america people. he's tried the same thing w/ social security and the draft in the past few days, despite clear statements from bush that he will protect the former and not institute the latter. kerry's desparate- the strategy may work, but that makes it no less despicable.
How so? All I have heard from Kerry as of late is that everything is Bush's fault. I don't know how you can say that without having your kerry glasses on. (I am not saying the Bush campain is innocent.)
Oh and don't forget part II: "And John Kerry has a plan to fix it!". Of course he fails to mention that cutting the deficit is his top priority (behind fighting terror) and if he doesn't have enough money than he won't do any of his "plans" anyways. Here are a list of plans I propose: Homeless: I have a plan to build them all houses World Hunger: I have a plan to give them food World Peace: I have a plan that will bring peace to the World Terrorists: I have a plan that will eliminate all the terrorists Education: I have a plan to better educate our young people Taxes: I have a plan to help the middle class Health Care: I have a plan to fix health care Social Security: I have a plan for SS See I can do as well as kerry. I have a plan for everything. Of course I don't have all the details ironed out and I have no idea how much they will cost to implement or how to pay for it but I have plans! 4chuckie for President folks! Vote early and vote often!
Let me just interject that I have never had a flu vaccination and that anybody who gets one is a giant sissy wuss. continuez...
And Bush keeps saying that nothing at all is his fault. He can't even highlight a single mistake that he has made, despite the fact that the list of mistakes is very, very long. I agree that Kerry is blaming Bush for many things that are simply not (at least not directly) the fault of the administration. However, Bush and Cheney keep on playing up the fear card in every single campaign speech to the point of implying that a Kerry presidency will invite more terrorist attacks, charges that cannot be proven and IMO are irresponsible fear mongering. Kerry's charges, particularly regarding the war on terror, are at least based in fact (world terrorism up since 9/11, more AQ recruits than ever, ports and nuclear facilities unsecured, etc.) and are directly related to Bush's record. I will admit that I believe Kerry much more than I believe Bush, given their respective truthfulness regarding their records. Kerry certainly exaggerates and makes some big stretches (like blaming the flu vaccine shortage on Bush), but these exaggerations and stretches don't even BEGIN to approach the level of those by the administration (cost of prescription drug plan, everything about Iraq, environmental policy, and the list could go on and on for pages).
Getting a panel of "experts" to study a problem is Bush's MO, especially if those studies are not followed up by action.
