Who said anything about specializing in anything? It would make him, freak of athletic nature that he is, slightly less guardable.

I'm not expecting him to ever shoot 40% from 3, I'm thinking about working with what we've got

also...Amen vs Carmelo would be fun. Rudy Gay is a jake, made a hell of a career though.

Those assholes really called about 6 moving screens on us and none the other way, at least 3 loose ball fouls on our lads on boards that never ever get called, ignored the blatant proximate foul on Alpe when they tried to give the ball to the Wolves when Naz knocked it out with 33 seconds left, and only called 1 out of every 5 fouls on Jalen and Sengun inside the paint and we still won.

Those refs can get in the nearest bin, shut the lid, and wait for the rubbish truck. Suck ****, assholes!

JG is better defender but FVV is after him otherwise I agree

    ???

Jalen Green and FVV are at the very worst above average defenders and miles above Holiday and Reed. Rox were 2nd best defense with the two of them playing the most minutes that doesnt happen if they are both bad defenders lets be real.

I would argue Jalen is an elite defender already just not a HOF level defender like Amen but he is already able to competently defend the best POA scorers like Ant.

A large part of the reason Ant had just 1 fg in the 4rth is there was no weakness for him to exploit, he would try to get a switch and it was between DB, Amen and JG and then Sengun would come over with a blitz so he has to give the ball up to someone else.

Jabari is an instrumental piece. Spacing, rebounding, defense, versatility. He does the little things that help us win.

The sterling defense was joking about ANY of those being considered “sterling”.You see something I don’t see with Jalen…I definitely don’t see anywhere near a elite defender in our backcourt. I do think Jalen might be a better defender than FVV though. Physically with his height and frame FVV is not very good at defending once an opponent gets inside the arc. That’s what I see. Lastly, and maybe seems funny… Reed plays good defense as far as anticipating passes…unfortunately his shooting hasn’t allowed him to be on the court very much and like FVV his size is not an asset.

When FVV gets back, Dillon needs to sit. This game was a perfect example about why Amen and Jabari should be starting over Dillon. Both are better defenders and rebounders. Dillon fouls too much and Jabari's 3 pt stroke makes up for Dillon. Ant torches Dillon, not Amen. Holiday was constantly hunted and was the main reason that Minnesota was even in this game. Holiday's 2-3 pt shots were critical, but he gave up about 6 straight buckets to Ant. Holiday shouldn't play at all when FVV gets back.

After Battier and Tucker I should know better, but it still bugs me how little most fans know about the value of position defense.

FVV is a great defensive player, that is an objective fact. The kind of fact that has actual data behind it , not " trust me bro, I know what Im talking about".

He gets no credit for being a big part of the immediate turnaround, even while we are watching the team flounder and struggle to win games without him..it's crazy. We had to have a hot shooting day just to win a home game against a mediocre Minnesota team.

“Asked whether he thinks the Rockets need to designate one go-to guy at the end of games, Şengün replied, “No, me and Jalen is always out there. So we’re missing Fred (VanVleet), he was holding the ball, but still, Jalen and me can finish in the end of the game.”

It's nice to have special playerS that can get buckets at the end.

“What I did say to our group at practice the other day was, ‘This last 27 (games) is gonna be the hardest, probably, in a lot of your young careers,’ ” Rockets coach Ime Udoka said. “What we talked about here is righting the ship and expecting this type of game, this type of environment, and finding meaningful basketball.”

Smith returned from seven weeks rehabbing a broken left hand and shot 4-of-6 from deep.

“That (my shot) ain’t ever gonna go nowhere. As long as I’m on this Earth, I promise you that,” he said, smiling.

Smith said the Rockets are learning to play “more composed” at the end of games.

“We still have a silly turnover sometimes in the end, a silly late-game foul like I did today, but we’re just more — we kind of know what to do,” Smith said. “Slow down, get the ball to our guys, crash the glass and get stops. That’s what we got to do to close the games. And we’re still learning, still getting there, but it’s growing for sure.”

He’s not been playing well since selected as an all star. Maybe back is still an issue. Or maybe ego. Regardless hasn’t been playing well between the careless passing, missed shots at the rim, and illegal screens. Needs to
    Tighten up
