Other forms of assistance are considered when determining eligibility for SNAP. For those who cannot work (children, individuals with disabilities, seniors who are unable to work) and still lack the financial resources (or assistance) for food, what should we do? Provide them with food assistance or let them go hungry?

People do abuse it. I said that most people don't abuse it. The majority do not. I understand and support trying to reduce the fraud involved.

Do you know how food stamps work? Who the majority of people that get food stamps are?

I can understand having disagreements over what the qualifications for food stamps should be or the amount or how long......... but who the hell thinks that there shouldn't be any food stamps?

Also why all the attention on food stamps and not the massive tax cuts for the wealthiest people? Shouldn't we be more upset that the ultra wealthy are the ones benefitting from this?

Why cannot we judge someone's beliefs?

We judge people on how good a parent they are - whether they work hard or are lazy - we judge people on just about everything else.

dam it Nook, it's all about the narrative, we can't focus on the rich folks, we have to show how the poor are abusing the "system" and if you work at Burger King 40 hours a weeks and you can't make ends meet then your just a bum...................I say if you get food stamps or any help and you don't work then you have to go out and pick up trash by the road every day or better yet, we will assign you to work at one of the Billionaires houses as a maid or landscaper. Those billionaires who are getting all the tax breaks are great businessman and they deserve all the money, the poor just need to try harder and pull up their dam boot straps...............dam freeloaders.

Some of them are definitely difficult jobs. I think that the minimum wage should increase. I don't begrudge people. I have just seen people take advantage of it and it turns me off.

I do. I saw people taking pictures of what they were buying (that could have changed), laughing about it, ect...Lobster, steak, ect...shouldn't be for food stamps. That's my problem.

Qualifications and limitations on the duration is an issue.

I never said that I don't think that the ultra wealthy should be benefitting from the massive tax cut outs. I certainly don't think that should be happening. We're on the same page there.

Yes I do disagree with it. Look how upset you get when asking a simple question. You don't know what my stance was on that.

People with Disability get money already. If they can't move around then they need to be in a place with assisted living. That's what they need. If you can't support yourself then you need someone else to help you. They'll give support, feed you meals ect... I don't want people to starve. I just don't think handing food out is the answer either.

You can't determine that from a message board. I think you're a good person. Reality is I don't know you though. Nothing you say to me could be true and I'd never know personally.

I'm hoping anyone who knows me knows I'm a good parent to my children and a good person. I'm guessing that your group of friends and family would say the same

On judging everyone I don't do it personally. If you're around my family I trust you.

For what it's worth I meant what I said about thinking that you are a good person.

Senate Dems Use Budget Vote to Make Repugs Squirm

Senate Repugs moved to take their first step Thursday toward funding new spending on border security and the military, while Dems prepared to put GOP lawmakers on the record
on uncomfortable issues (cutting medic aid / food stamps and more to finance another tax cut for the rich) at the start of President Trump’s new term.

The process of debating and amending the budget resolution was slated to begin late Thursday. A budget resolution—if passed by both chambers—unlocks a process known as
budget reconciliation, which allows the Senate to bypass its filibuster rules and pass legislation with a simple majority instead of the 60-vote threshold for most measures. The process
would allow Republicans to pass Trump’s fiscal agenda later this year without needing Democratic help. The Senate and House then would have to agree on final legislation.

But the reconciliation process also will empower Dems to propose as many amendments as they want, leading to what is expected to be an all-night “vote-a-rama.”
While the amendments are nonbinding, they offer a rare chance for the minority party to force the majority to follow its lead.

While the amendments are nonbinding, they offer a rare chance for the minority party to force the majority to follow its lead.

“Dems are going to hold the floor all day long—and all night long—to expose how Repugs want to cut taxes for billionaires while gutting things Americans care about most:
healthcare, jobs, public safety, national security, housing, education,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) said.

Conservo Clutch D and D fans have a 401 K so they identify with the rich. If they can get a couple of hundred bucks off their taxes they are satisfied even if the oligarchs, their heroes, get billions off their taxes. Besides it owns the educated libs. The "poors" and lower middle class could have their 401K's get their couple hundred in tax breaks if they weren't so lazy and managed their money smarter..

People want private healthcare because when it gets public the wait times get too long. There is a shortage of quality healthcare and people in capitalist societies are willing to pay a premium to get it. This is why you have medicare vs medicaid and anyone climbs out of poverty in the UK wants to move.

I think SNAP is fine provided there are ways to ensure it isn't abused. The average payout to 42 million people is $220 a month which is a lot of money. On top of that, alot of it is spent on junk food -- they never make this studies public but it's essentially cookies, cakes and soft drinks which are empty carbohydrates that make you fat. I don't think taxpayers are obligated to subsidize unhealthy lifestyle choices and it needs to be for fruits, veggies, meats, breads, eggs that encourage health.

Technically you are not allowed hot foods on food stamps so that could be misinformation or them gaming the system. My thoughts on it
