I hope it's ok to have a dedicated thread for the WR & TE units.

As of February, 2025, we have ONE legitimate starting receiver in Nico Collins. Tank Dell is reportedly likely out for the 25' season. The rest of the WR room consists of backup-quality guys. We need TWO starting-quality WR and, ideally, a third QUALITY WR for depth.

At TE we have veteran Dalton Schultz for 2 more years and returning rookie Cade Stover. We also have Brevin Jordan returning for 25' who is undoubtedly the most explosive of the three. This unit under-performed in 24'. I think this unit is set for 25' unless FA acquisitions allow Nick to use our #1 pick on TE Coleston Loveland, if available.

We can discuss which personell to pursue through FA/Draft. In the meantime, here is a video released today that discusses our WR situation.

Crazy how WR goes from our deepest position to one of our thinnest in just a year... if you had told me before the beginning of last season that we'd need to add 2, if not 3, difference makers to the room, I would have laughed...

Sign Atwell/Robinson from the Rams for 10 mil for both.

Draft a developmental WR later in the draft 5-7 rd. I really liked what I've seen from Isaac TesLaa and Ricky White as late rd guys.

I feel like if we can shore up the protection up front, and Nico can stay healthy, that CJ can make it work with pretty much any #2 and #3.

Didn't realize we had Dalton for 2 more years................WTF, he sucks. Now, if what we hear about Slowik is true and he was not a great coach maybe the new OC who has a background with TE`s can fix it then I am cool but if we can drop his ass then please cut him

I used to think this, then Tank and Diggs went down and we had to suffer through Metchie (drops) and Hutchinson (unable to separate).

With Tank done for 2025, one of those two has to take a step forward next year or we're gonna struggle.

One free agent addition + a rookie. I can even see 2 rookie receivers, one a little later. The Football gods have not been kind with the injuries. They will miss games next year too.

    Metchie

But we didnt have any protection for CJ, maybe giving Hutch an extra second to separate or CJ an extra second to place the ball a bit better and its a different story. I am on board with revamping the WR core tho.

I agree that the OL playing like **** makes everything harder.

I really hope we can get Diggs back at a reasonable price to keep things moving

Sign Elijah Moore & Demarcus Robinson as free agents and then sign Julien Fleming and Dont'e Thornton as UDFA. Those 4 plus Nico, Hutch and Metchie would be my WR room for next year. They're green but they are fast. Added benefit is Flemings connection with CJ from his days at Ohio State.

    Good deep cut on Fleming.

Moore has speed, but has been trending down with more PT IIRC

    Shopping on a budget.....

The hope is that CJ & Caley take advantage of these guys strengths and put them in position to succeed so that their weaknesses are minimized. Assuming Nico draws the opponents best cover, all any of these guys need to do is use their + attributes to get open from the #2 or #3 guy from the other team. Much easier said than done but the I think this is a realistic path when you still have to fix the IOL and you probably have to add some to the Defense.

We need a slot receiver and a Y, or at the very least, an X who can flex into the Y role to cover for the inevitable Nico injuries. My wish list options include:
    • Nick Westbrook-Ikhine (X, can play Y)
    • Darius Slayton (X, can play Y)
    • Elijah Moore (X, can play Y and slot)
    • Terrace Marshall Jr. (X)
    • Ashton Dulin (Y)
    • Rondale Moore (Slot)
    • Greg Dortch (Slot)
As for the tight end position, given the significant financial investment already in place, I expect them to address it through the draft and undrafted free agents (UDFA). However, if they can find a way to trade Schultz and bring in Mo Alie-Cox, that would be a fantastic addition.

Fleming I'm not sure on. I watched him a ton at OSU. He came out of HS as the #1 WR recruit in the country but dealt with lot of injuries his first year+ at OSU. When he was finally healthy, he was WR #3 while at OSU. I felt it may have been because he was behind talents such as MHJ Jr, Wilson, Olave, etc. But he wasn't a difference maker at PSU last season even with their pretty crap WR room.

Not sure if he has the wiggle to be an NFL receiver, at least nothing better than what we have in Metchie and Hutch.
