I mentioned this a year ago, that Ja would have been the most likely of the younger star players to be moved. He had all of the off-court issues, he has a history of injuries and a small frame and relies on getting to the basket and not a good outside shooter. He is a PG that shot 27% from 3 last year, and I am assuming in a few years he will be eligible for a similar max like Luka was. So at age 28 you're looking at a $350M+ deal. The Grizzles were sold for $350M in 2012, now you are paying one injury prone guy $350M, it just doesn't work for a small market unless that guy is a generational talent. It makes sense to trade him now while you can get a fairly solid return. The most hes ever played was 67 games his rookie year, and that number has essentially declined each year.

Another guy CF doesn’t want, will pass on :D

    Luka? “Nope, too fat.”
    Ja? “Nope.”
    Booker? “Nope, not good enough.”
    Fox? “Nope, not good enough.”
    LaMelo? “Nope, not good enough.”
    Ingram? “Nope, not good enough.”
    Trae? “Nope, not good enough.”
    LaVine? “Nope, not good enough.”
    Lauri? “Nope, not good enough.”
    Jimmy? “Nope, too old.”
    Durant? “Nope, too old.”
    PG? “Nope, too old.”
    Kyrie? “Nope, too old.”
    Curry? “Eww no.”
Harden? “Nope, too old. Rather have FVV.”
    Zion? Nope, too fat.”
    Embiid? “Nope, too injury prone.”
Jaylen Brown? “Nope, not good enough.” (This was maybe 2 years ago before they won the title and possibly before or around the time Udoka was hired)
Giannis? “Nope, too old.” (Not that he was ever available but when they started slow and there was a sliver of talk “Could he want out?”)

On one hand, CF be like “Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass.”
On the other, CF be like “Stupid Stone! Do something already! Fire Stone!”

Who the **** are you people waiting on?!

“We have a core 7 and 7 franchise caliber players. We don’t need anyone.”
“I’m content to ride out this group of kids.”

Yeah, I want Anthony Edwards too. Crap in one hand, wish in another…
    Tyrese Haliburton?
Tyrese Maxey? (LOL @ Morey trading him here…gonna cost your first newborn. Maybe Morey is fired.)
    Tyler Herro?
Waiting for the Thunder to cheap out again on their big three?
Wembanyama? (Yeah, the guy who fist pumped when he learned Houston got the 4th pick)

not a good fit for us and i'm going to avoid small guards that rely on their athleticism.

probably a good idea for the grizz to cash in on morant now then in 2 years though.

@J.R. you going to pop off on this target? Do you think Tillman will shoot for it?

I doubt they trade him to a division rival.

I think it kinda pays to be picky when you're looking to go from "really good team" to "championship winner", honestly. How often do teams win a title without a top 5 player, let alone without a top 10 player? It's really not very common at all.

If we just want to be a competitive playoff team, we're already that--we're not really looking for marginal upgrades, we're looking for the big trade that gets us to the WCF and beyond.

With a guy like Morant, he's clearly very good, but also doesn't check off most of the boxes we're looking for in a major trade.

    1. Is a he a top 10 player / does he have a good chance at becoming one? Not really, in my opinion. Even at his best he's somewhere in that 11-20 range, and this season his production is down and he's probably performing outside the top 20. (21 and 7 on 55% true shooting is basically Jalen Green numbers plus a few assists.)
    2. Is he young enough to fit our timeline? This is the one box Morant does check at age 25.
    3. Does he stay on the court consistently? Nope, he keeps getting hurt or suspended.
    4. How well does he fit with our best current players, who struggle with outside shooting? Very poorly--his outside shot sucks.

He seems like a knucklehead, but if Ime thinks it would work then maybe it would work. Of course it depends on what we would have to give up. I would expect Memphis would want everything.

So, the one thing that may make this possibility sensible is that there's a decent chance JJJ will make an All NBA team this year. If that's the case, then the Grizzlies' money situation becomes really tight. They had to give up a FRP to get out of Smart's contract.

Basically, the Grizzlies have some decisions to make. They either (1) keep Ja, JJJ, and Bane, but sacrifice all depth, or (2) trade one of them and build a deep team around the remaining two. Personally, I’d prefer JJJ, but Ja is definitely interesting.

Yep. I also don't think the list is completely accurate about what CF wants or doesn't want. Most thoughtful posters weigh each potential target in terms of $, fit, timeline, and impact of trade assets. Ja is a no for me, becasue of fit and what we would probably have to give up. I wanted Durant for a year and half at the right cost. Irving would be ideal for 3 years. Very few people would say no to Giannis. This off-season is going to be extremely important. I hope we don't waste our pool of assets on a moderate upgrade like Booker or someone that doesn't fit with Amen. I think we only make moderate moves to add shooting to the current roster, unless the price for Durant comes way down and he wants to come here.

When I saw this I immediately thought about him coming to Houston
Is he mature enough for Houston ??? That's the question

As far as the Rockets go, Bane and JJJ would be the best fits. For what it would cost JA would be a disaster, unless he miraculously develops a 3 pt shot. Unforrtunately, Memphis is probably only interested in moving Morant
