Calif Insurance commissioner rejects State Farm's request for 22% emergency rate hike​

The insurer asked for the emergency rate hike earlier this month — as well as increases of 38% for rental dwellings and 15% for renters and condo owners — with the new rates
taking effect May 1. The company said it needed the funds to replenish its capital due to the costs of the fires as it awaits a decision on an outstanding request for a rate hike filed last year.​

Gov. Gavin Newsom proposes $125M mortgage relief program to help victims of recent natural disasters in Southern Calif


Newsom’s office also noted that the relief package would utilize existing mortgage settlement (from the nation's 5 largest mortage servicers) leading and would not impact the proposed 2025-26 budget.

Bank of America Corp., Wells Fargo & Co., JPMorgan Chase & Co., Citigroup Inc. and Ally Bank/GMAC Mortgage. The banks were accused of using illicit tactics to wrongfully foreclose on homeowners.


Originally, Calif was part of a class action suit, among many states, against these lenders; Calif's share of the original settlement would have been in the $2 to $4 billion range.
