We can.. but it may sound hollow. Even, If I go with the most generous interpretation of how this is going to go all day ... Just because accidents happen doesn't make it right that you hit some one with your car(specially when you are tasked with taking care of that person )
Where do you come up with this stuff? Trump"s words only? He lies about everything, just like he lied about FEMA, Biden, and support. He wants to eliminate FEMA and leave it up to the states. Where will they get all that money? Hurricane damages have cost billions in dollars, and hurricanes aren't going away. They are getting stronger. Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced that President Biden has agreed to North Carolina’s request to cover 90% of Public Assistance. The federal government typically covers 75% of the cost. The increased federal reimbursement share decreases the financial cost to the State of North Carolina for eligible programs and projects. The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program is currently authorized at 75% federal cost share with the 25% remaining share being covered by the state. “A complete recovery in Western North Carolina will require an investment of billions of dollars and agreement by the Biden Harris Administration to cover more of the cost is a tremendous boost to our efforts,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “We will continue working to get more funding into Western North Carolina so we can rebuild our communities in stronger and more resilient ways.” “As we continue into the recovery phase of this disaster, there will be a significant cost to rebuilding western North Carolina communities and to assist survivors with recovering from Helene,” said NC Emergency Management Director Will Ray. “The increased federal cost share provided will allow for state dollars to go further which will expedite many recovery and hazard mitigation projects as we go into 2025.” https://governor.nc.gov/news/press-...helene-federal-cost-share-adjustment-approved More than $100 million in FEMA individual assistance has been approved for North Carolina households affected by Tropical Storm Helene. North Carolina Recovery By the Numbers All numbers and dollar amounts are as of close of business Oct. 15. FEMA has made individual assistance available to 39 North Carolina counties and tribal members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program has approved over $102 million including: $18.6 million to help homeowners and renters to pay for emergency home repairs, home replacement or other housing needs. $83.6 million to help with other serious disaster-related needs, like moving expenses, childcare and disaster-related dental, medical or funeral expenses. Disaster Survivor Assistance specialists are in North Carolina communities helping individuals apply for assistance. As of today, these teams have registered more than 5,000 survivors. 6 Disaster Recovery Centers are operating in impacted areas, and to-date, have served more than 2,500 visitors. Even more centers will be opening in the coming days. FEMA is providing temporary hotel stays to more than 2,000 households through Transitional Sheltering Assistance. FEMA inspectors have performed more than 14,400 home inspections. https://www.fema.gov/press-release/20241017/fema-support-north-carolina-surpasses-100-million
Layoffs are part of life...it sucks, but it is a part of life. Any job, anywhere, is going to dismiss employees if their position is determined to be expendable. It happened to my wife before who worked in O&G...no warning, she walked in to work that day and within minutes her and her entire team were packing their belongings into a banker's box. There is an entire industry (Consulting) that exists that reviews a company's budget and payroll and advises who should be cut. Just because it is the government does not make them exempt from cuts. Let's stop with the "but they have a mortgage, kids, BILLS!" ... no s***, so does everybody that has ever gotten laid off.
I feel like if I'm a corporate executive who has made millions of dollars going from company to company increasing short term quarterly return on investment for shareholders by not increasing quality of a product that becomes more desirable and therefore more profitable through increase in quality but by slashing costs from cyclical layoffs that have nothing to do with a desire to make the company produce better products and services, I appreciate your time dedication to the propaganda that clears me of being nothing more than a grifter as a CEO. Like if seek you out and pay you for your services doing PR for me. It's called the Jack Welch style of management. When was the last time you cared about the engineering talent housed in General Electric? GE the past 4 decades have been gutted into a glorified finance company that has nothing to do with engineering competence anymore and during that gutting process guess what... Many shareholders and executives got massively wealthy from said process. And this is where I tell you that a CEO successfully increasing shareholder value has nothing to do with making better products or services. So now when you reference this style of management to government, you are seeing what happens to GE to happen to government, an entity that hands out VA payments, social security payments, protects capital interests with defense and military etc. You are describing an entity not meant for profit but meant to service society and want to turn it into a finance company that does nothing but increase profit margins for capital owners. Good luck.
... I kept calm when I was fired in my 20s. It helped me look at things from a big picture perspective. Running on emotions clouds your ability to see clearly, and emotions over reason are why dems are so dead in the water with the public despite pushing for policies that would be more beneficial than the right. Things have been too cushy for too long at the expense of the taxpayer and people are getting a dose of reality. Large and sustained federal budget deficits are harmful to the fiscal health of the United States, yet policymakers struggle with reining in the red ink. Even during the years of economic growth immediately predating the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government ran large and growing budget deficits, near $1 trillion per year. As policymakers enacted emergency measures to combat the COVID-19 crisis, federal budget deficits ballooned to levels not seen since World War II. So now the red ink is being reigned in, the beginning is always an overkill process. Then the essentials are slowly added back. I am much more comfortable campaigning for and submitting paperwork for re adding vital jobs that have been lost after the necessary cull, then continue adding to the bloat and pressures on the middle class and poor because I don't want to hurt feelings.
Trump has made it VERY clear that he doesn’t give a **** about veterans and does not understand why anyone would serve because there is no personal benefit.
I have to correct you on this. Probationary doesn't mean "new grad", it means "less than x years in current position". There are plenty of smart, dedicated, experienced people who recently received promotions and were thus probationary. They were also fired.
Do you have a link to verify this? She is one of thousands of mostly new employees known as probationary workers laid off this week across the federal government. Those recent hires had joined the federal workforce within the last one to two years, depending on the agency, and have fewer protections.
There's tons of cases like this. It's insane whats happening Its extremely depressing and I don't think we'll ever return back. Why would any intelligent individual work for the government again?
Not at 11:15 PM, sorry. I live in the DC area and know people who were laid off because of the situation I described. I know others who decided against pursuing promotions during the administration change and, luckily, still have jobs because they avoided the current approach.
It is depressing for a lot of reasons. Precedence has now been set going forward when it comes to the Executive Branch and handling all of the apolitical government employees. The ideal situation would be that over time the holes are filled and everything goes back to normal… but based on history that won’t happen and there will be an over correction and payback will be a b****. Dan Carlin isn’t some lift wing hack and his comments about what is going on are very interesting.
Just for the record it's worth noting that pretty much every time you see one of these stories - the firing is illegal under existing federal law
Yeah people think probationary only applies to new hires - in many agencies it applies to anyone promoted in the last 12-18 months Literally DOGE- because they're a bunch neo Nazis who don't GAF are doing an anti -meritocracy purge (which is illegal)
Good luck talking to him. According to him, the administration made the decision to terminate specific individual for a reason that the public does not know, therefore, it's all hearsay what you discuss. I'll save you the time, unless you really want to go back and forth with him.
FULL of stupid people? No. At least partially comprised of stupid people? Yes. At least partially comprised of superfluous manpower? Yes.
I keep reading over and over again about veterans believing their veteran status and tours in the Middle East would magically make them exempt from federal firings. President Trump has a very long history of not respecting of giving a **** about veterans or service -- so why would he want to save the job of what he believes are fools for risking their lives in a war?
