They're never going to not have it though because they sell tickets and make money off of it and its a big event that those cities enjoy hosting because of that. East v West again with home court on the line would do it though but the NBA leadership always been against that.
NBA cant compare to NFL. The NFL is an American institution. You can't mess up the NFL and they have tried. Look at the rule changes and the rigging and the favoritism and dumb fines. The NFL is an entity based on TEAMS. Some of the biggest stars in the NFL can walk down the street unnoticed. The NBA is more stars focused. The NFL commissioner is just as inept as the NBA. The NFL takes away the stars and the NFL will continue to function ( i think it happened in the lockout seasons with replacement players - not a sports historian) Silver starts banning stars and swingin his dick around (pause) see how far he gets.
I think with a few fixes tonight would have been solid Cut the commercials and the in between times in half. No mini events during game commercials slots, keep all that strictly between the games. Remove the rising stars team and replace it with a 4th all star team. Give two additional allstar slots for both conferences (14 each 28 players total). Each team is 7 players. Increase game scores to 50. If that was the format I think it would be harder to complain about tonight. And of course, people need to stop complaining and just try to enjoy the show. Social media turns everything into a complaint contest.
SNL50 was more exciting than this. The League One Volleyball match on ESPN2 was more exciting than this. Appreciate the efforts to try to switch things up tho.
I was hopeful for the mini tournament making things more competitive. Didn’t quite work. The first two games were promising. The final was crap. Oh well.
WTF was that?! This was BAD!!! They should make four All-Star teams based on stats and have two semifinal games on Saturday… both full 48-minute games… so we actually get real competition. Then on Sunday, the winners face off in a 48-minute championship game. That way, every star gets good playing time, and fans get to see their favorite players in good minutes. This new “first to 40 points” format is just not it. ALSO, all these performances and filler stuff is just so stupid. If you’re really going to do this, then have Kevin Hart do a 15-30 minute roast of all the all stars, that would be hilarious.
Can we go back to East vs West. Give the winning team a 10mil donation to their charity of choice or some ****. Winning team can throw 10mil worth of pies at refs? Anyways this **** sucks
I thought about that too but a lot of incentives are tied into all-star game appearances and stuff. I wonder how that would work with current contracts but yeah that would have made it all much better.
Honestly, we need to stop looking for solutions and let the game be what the All Stars make it. I use to watch this **** religious but stop giving a **** many years ago and I haven't tuned in in years. Let the City host it since it brings in local revenue but on top of that NBA fans just need to accept the weekend for what it is. Silver can continue to do goofy **** but you can't make us give a **** if the stars don't give a ****. And who can blame them, they been playing hard all season long, so they probably just want to take it easy for this week before the final stretch run.
Just hit me, also have to make a 3rd place game that way all 4 teams get equal minutes and games. Not sure how the NBA missed out on that. It’s exactly what they do for the Olympics with the four final teams. It’s not fair for some players to only get one game and half the minutes of others. Brunson got 8 minutes as an allstar starter which is wild. 4 games to 50 gives us the potential for up to 396 points. Given that recent allstar games were scoring around 320-380 points total that puts it way closer to the norm than 3 games to 40 which maxes out at 237 possible points.
In the Olympics there is a bronze medal to be had...... Nobody even cares about a Gold medal in the All Star Game.
Highlight of the weekend: 1. That kid getting the 3 at the buzzer for a $100k 2. Chuck calling out Draymond and all the others that THEY are responsible for all these gimmicks and new ways to make it somewhat entertaining. 3. The fishing gifts from Hart to the TNT crew, that was funny. 4. MacClung dunks Lows: 1. The commentary during the dunk contest and All-Star games and all the talking by Hart, only some jokes that were funny but he’s a horrible at that job. Michael Rappaport or someone like that or Gabriel Iglesias who can do voices in as actually from California as well. 2. That on court guy during the 3pt shootout with Dame telling them to hurry up because the NBA is going to commercials….I mean WTF…. 3. Pretending the TNT crew actually chose the players, go back to East and West. 4. The whole Sunday format. 5. Towns saying he hopes fans will appreciate the competition and effort they put in…uhm what effort? 6. CP3 and Wemby cheating. 7. Dunk contest. 8. 3pt shooutout.
Why play 3 on 3 full court? Also I’ve seen other leagues in freaking YouTube that utilizes this way way better and with better camerawork. The nba product is dying, just kill it now for god sakes!!
