As bad as the 0-15 lowlight package looked, you can tell he has a decent shot. Hopefully they can coach him up. On the other hand, Bub looks good for them.
I just looked at the game footage in slow-mo. He shot looks deceptively good, but his elbow is not square with his shoulders. His elbow is too tight towards the center of his body, which causes his release to go right. His feet also aren't square. He points his feet left, which probably is why his elbow goes in and his release goes right. Once he jumps and get in the air everything gets a little better, but it would help if he started with good form.
It’s not about whether his shot looks good or not, even if it looked bad that’s something that can be worked on. The problem is his horrid shot selection, stemming from an utter lack of basketball iq and knowing how to play the game. Here’s the secret to evaluating young players. Being “raw” is not a bad thing, but you should only be raw if you started basketball late, like in their teens, and you are catching up on skill. If you started playing basketball at 5 years old like Sarr, and still have zero skill or feel or clue to how to play the game, then that’s a giant red flag that you only got into basketball because your parents forced you to because they thought you would be tall. A tale as old as time, that’s the case here.
Well, I don't know how Reed Sheppard will turn out. But if he is indeed a bust, it won't be because of his physical limitations as so many doubters keep trying to argue. We have been shown time and time again that physical limitations do not prevent a skilled player from becoming a good NBA player. Our own Sengun and FVV are examples of having been doubted because of their physical limitations. They are two of the most important players on our roster at this point.
Clingan was the better pick at the time too, 9% of clutchfans knew it. Unfortunately they were drowned out by the vocal minority.
It's funny to go back and look at all the comments on why the Rockets SHOULD draft Reed Sheppard from; @AroundTheWorld @CXbby @Rvo384 @DaDakota Obviously, he is the least productive player Stone has drafted thus far. However, many of us knew he was not have NBA talent.
Look around, most of the journalists and so called draft experts were high on him...... I was like meh. They just wanted to build him up like the next Curry and Nash combo but he just was not on that level.
Sarr is 30.8% 3pt shooting for the season right now at 4.6 attempts per game. Like his countryman: Wemby, he has the greenlight, but some of the local beat writers wishes he didn't take as many.
I maybe watched Reed 5 - 6 times in college and I was blown away when many had him reated that high, especially Stone. He's normally great at drafting. And the fact they had him as the next Curry, I just didn't see that at all. How ANYBODY saw that, I still don't know. Curry had handles! Curry had creativity! Curry was shifty! I didn't see any of that in Reed. Reed just had good shooting stats! Hopefully Stone doesn't fall for the Okie Doke again
If Sheppard was 6'10 we wouldnt be having this conversation. Just cuz FVV and Sengun can overcome their physical limitations doesnt mean everyone can overcome their physical limitations too. Just look how many Asians are starters in the NBA? You telling me no one in the entirety of Asia has bball skills?
