man I know clyde is a houston legend but it still irks me his jersey is retired while someone like OT who was a Rocket longer and helped to our first ring isn't honored, not that I think he deserve it but I don't think Drexler does either, it's a slap in the face to people like Kenny Smith, Robert Horry, Sam Cassell, and Mario Elie who were there for both rings...and yeah I know we would have never won the 2nd one without clyde but still...
did portland retire Drexler's jersey too? post Rockets championships, Horry Sam Mario proved to either win more championships or turn teams into winners especially Sam, he turned around the Bucks, the Nets, the Wolves and the Clippers.. THE CLIPPERS!! took ALL of those teams to the playoffs oh yeah, being a Rookie and knocking down on of these most important shots in franchise history to beat the Knicks in the NBA finals has to count for something Oh Mario and Horry got the Lakers and Spurs some championships.. Thanks Les. Thanks.
I'll never forget Hakeem's reaction after the trade, he was in the locker room and he couldn't stop giggling. I remember he said, "He's a fast break, <giggle>, a one-man fast break <giggle>!" Clyde after his first game with Hakeem: "I've never been so wide open in my life." Man, those are great memories!
3rd set of team mates to score 40 points in the same game in the playoffs: Game 5 Western Conference Finals 1995 Drexler & Dream. Can anyone post the game? With that said, Calvin's commentary would improve the Rocket fanship experience in orders of magnitude that can not be written in this message because it would be more dense than a black hole which could suck the gravity out of all the buildings in the world (like having millions of TMac dunks on Bradley in every office globally). ROCKET FRONT OFFICE, i know you're listentening: bring back Calvin!
Yeah, I was a huge fan of OT. Can't say I was conflicted, though. I'd been wanting Clyde and Dream to play together since Phi Slama Jama broke up, so it was a dream come true. tinman said it already, but can you imagine OT on this team? Damn!
memories.....memories.....man i am getting old.....its hard to believe it was 12 years ago.....and while i appreciate what our team is doing now......i still get a tear in my eye when i think about those teams........i dont ever know if we will have a group of guys like that again.....
Drexler was and still is my favourite player of all time.. I remember that trade and the subsequent championship run so vividly, it feels like they happened just yesterday. Twelve years already.. DAMN
The Clyde Drexler trade changed my fandom status for Houston Rockets from "neutral" to "enthusiastic" in 1995.
Man if only they'd pulled the trigger with Portland in 84 and we got to watch 10 plus years of Phi Slamma Jamma in The Summit BUT with MJ running with them. There'd be several more banners hanging in TC.
