I agree from a team standpoint. But it's hurts his 2B counting stats for the HOF. Although I think he is already in.
If someone had said in October that Bregman would sign for $95.1M/3yrs with opt outs, I think we all would have considered that a disappointing deal for Bregman, and would be divided on whether we would want Houston to give him that contract.
I really hope he gets in as he's certainly deserving.y only concern is they hold the sign stealing scandal against him.
Oh… so it’s only 95.1 for 3 years. Why have the news been reporting it as 3 yrs 120 million? But I know how they structure contracts, they do a lot for optics. Good job getting to the gist of the dollars.
I mean, all we have to do is look at the video clips of Bregs suiting up and walking around the new clubhouse. Yeah, that stuff is of course edited to look the very best. But hell, even I can feel Bregs excitement at the new surroundings, the historic park and all that comes with it.
So he’s playing for $20 million a season. The Astros offered $26 million a year for 5 years. Got it….
The Astros offered 6/156 He’s still getting more money, it will just be later. No one needs more than 20 mil a year.
Wow that’s 6 years. I know he gets it later, but it wasn’t about the team/loyalty. A lot of pissed off Astro fans on social media. Guess I’m one of them. On to MLB 2025. Gotta sign up for mlb.tv
These two things seem to be a bit at opposition - if it's a bad deal for Bregman, it should generally be a good deal for the team and we'd want to have signed him for that, right? Regardless, it seems the key for him was the optouts and locking in 1 year at $40MM or whatever the NPV of that is - not sure how the deferrals work if he opts out (does he get the first $20MM, or is it all spread out over 10 years, etc). It seems like he's pretty confident he can follow the Correa path and sign a bigger deal next offseason - not sure who all is available in FA that year or what the market might look like, but it seems to be where he's settled. And worst case, he can try again the following year if this year doesn't go well.
I don't think what Altuve does the rest of his career will have much impact on him getting into the HOF or not If he doesn't get in, it's only going to be because of idiot sports writers who keep him out "because he is a cheater" From an on the field standpoint, he is an easy HOF And you have to be pretty stupid to think he participated in the scandal, but that fits a lot of sports writers
Altuve got more hits last year than he had in any season since 2017. I don't think a 185 pace is realistic for 2025. His pace 2018-current is 157/season (not counting the shortened 2020), ages 28-34, so your estimate that he exceeds that in ages 35-38 is not something I would bet on. I'd love to see him hit the mark, but I'm not going to be disappointed if he ends up in the 2800s.
