It’s really crazy. Green turned 23 four days ago and we have posters on here literally claiming his in his “peak.”
It’s fine for you to predict Jalen won’t hit 36% for the year. But, just know, that is a bet against history. History says Jalen is near his lowest 3FG% at this point of the year, each year. So, for you to bet against history (ie, no post-ASB bump), you’re being pretty negative, and creeping into hata territory. I don’t see the point in your negativity. If he, once again, has his best stats post ASB, this could indicate that he indeed hits walls each year, from playing through pain (like no one else on the team), and responds to rest. To me, this is good news, in that, getting stronger each year (including endurance) could smooth out his inconsistencies. The playoffs (which come with more rest) will be a test, for sure.
Shall I just go ahead and open the Jalen appreciation thread? He only has 4 more years left, we might as well start closing the curtains. What an ******* Jalen is for not proving he can lead a championship calibre team in scoring at age 23 after we ignored his development for over half of his career so far. Don't even come at me with "but we've never even seen him on a team with average spacing nevermind championship calibre teammates". That's just excuses. He should've proven it to us even though he's not on a championship calibre team. Why can't he do it in our imagination like Edwards? If he was like Edwards, then he would've proven he's a championship calibre lead scorer by 23. Because of all those Finals appearances Edwards has you know.
Years not over. Just like you dismissed this comparison when he was at his peak %'s for the year. Comparing now just makes you feel good about your position. Both from the jalen fans earlier in january, and the doubters now. Curious and hopeful to see how it compares at the end of the season when "Jalen heats up against tanking teams post-asb".
I don't think I'm being negative. I'm looking at his performance and I'm commenting on it. This isn't a discussion about playing through pain, it's about his abilities as a player. I see a lower ceiling than the fans who are overly optimistic. I think he's starting his prime at 23 and I think for almost all players that lasts until 27 or so. Jalen needs to improve as a player during this time because once he gets to 28 or so then he's going to need more consistent ways to score. It always goes back to shooting for me and for this team. For us to be successful, we need a SG that shoots better than 34% from 3 on a high volume. Jalen limits our ability to win games by not being that guy. The league average for SG is 36.9% for 3's. And that's not even starters. People get indignant talking about his shooting and he's 2% worse than league average.
Never claimed the year was over. Didn’t claim that where he is now is definitely where he will end the year. I found it interesting(possibly just a little alarming) how nearly identical his shooting numbers are right this second to his rookie season. What I do think is that it’s becoming less and less likely that he will become a well above average efficiency scorer who is a no doubt number 1 scoring option on a contender. Notice I didn’t say he won’t I said it’s becoming less and less likely, in my opinion, that he reaches that level. I don’t “feel good about this position” because my interest is to see another Rockets title in my lifetime.
Can you express how you came to the conclusion that player primes are at 23-27 years of age? Just want to see how your brain works to get to that conclusion.
I looked at top players and their stats at different ages. It's not scientific at all. Even then, it would be hard to find a player that relies on athleticism who is better at age 30 than at age 25 or even 27. Number of games start to build up as well, especially for players that entered the league at a young age.
You can't make this **** up lol. The funny thing is for Jaters it's a catch 22. If you say this doesn't represent how good Green actually is in terms of defensive attention then you have to admit that Amen and Sengun are horrendous for spacing. And given that most Jaters are hardcore Alpi or Amen stans they really are in a conundrum addressing this madness. @Downtown Sniper As one of the matriarchs of the Jater club how do you even address this man?
Here is a more scientific analysis of a group of players of the same archetype (scoring guards) all who entered the NBA at age 19.
That's fine, but the only player I want on that list is Jaylen Brown. The rest are good players but not great. Beal is bad and people have dogged on Lavine for years. A lot of people like Booker but I've always disliked him and felt he is overrated. I wouldn't trade Jalen for him. Jalen super fans get mad when people say that they don't think he is in the same class as Ant or Brunson or Shai or Maxey or Jamal Murray or ? If you look at Darko DPM, Jalen's numbers are worse than Herro's. Herro's! Jalen is a good but not top player. Jaylen on your list is a top player. Beal, Booker, and Lavine are not.
I'm trying to find this mythical Jalen fan who believes he's on SGA or Ant level. Was Tyler Hero better than 22 year old Booker? Probably. Herro in his prime. Booker made a all NBA first team in his career. That isn't fan hype. Green's trajectory to me seems like a high possiblity of making a couple 3rd teams in his career and smaller possiblity he makes a few 2nd teams or peaks at a first team award. But him making 2nd team all league in his career is a reasonable possibility still.
So....how many more years before Jalen Green is finally a net positive overall during his time on the court? Do we have a graph for that?

He is already a net positive with 3.5WS, 0.5 BPM, 1.1 VORP and cumulative +/- of 55. Thats way more than I can say about Reed Brickpard who is a net negative scoring 3 pts on horrible efficiency. Keep crying though.
Rockets are 3.7 points per 100 worse when Reed is in the game and 11.6 points per 100 worse when Jalen is in the game. At least read what you're responding to and check out the numbers before you make up nonsense.
Ultimately, HeyP explained and illustrated the point much better than I could have articulated it, so not much else for me to say here.
