He has a 42” vertical. That seems pretty good.

Weird to see people celebrating an NBA player for getting a dunk. Even 5'3" Muggsy Bogues could dunk.

    But yeah, go Reed.

Former Rockets legend Jeremy Lin coaching Reed Shepard in the Rising Stars Game! I predict a Linsanity like resurgence from Reed after the all star break!!

There is no such thing as former Rockets legend. If you are a legend, you are a legend for life.

Reed will be a Rockets legend someday. I hope not anytime soon.

Is it just me or does it seem like Reed, in his limited time, isn't developing his point guard skills? I see him bring up the ball and quickly pass it off as soon as he crosses half-court (usually to Sengun) and then run to the corner.

Is that what we expect from our point guard or are we hoping he develops some actual play making abilities? I don't know, that's just been my take away when I watch him play.

Well yes, that’s the mystery. In summer league and the G league he’s the dominant player on the floor and he’s running the show. But, with the Rockets he just hands the ball off and stands on the perimeter. I don’t know what’s going on.

Going back to college, he does what his coaches ask of him, even if it's stupid.

It's obvious Ime wants to prioritize others, and Sheppard isn't the kind of player to go against that....which is part of the reason he was a really good pick. A lot of other players would be throwing tantrums like Cam Whitmore does every other game if he thinks he's not getting enough shots. You don't get that from Sheppard.

I think with time, they'll expand his role, he was just unfortunate enough to land with a team that has no interest in developing any more young players. That means the development will be slower, but he's super young so that's fine.

Now, would it be better if they had prioritized his development a bit more so that the team doesn't look so awful when they inevitably got FVV hurt by playing him such heavy minutes? Of course, but we don't have a coach that thinks beyond the current game.

That's what I've been questioning. If they want him to be the future PG, they should have him do what PGs do, rather than just pass it to someone and wait for the catch and shoot. If they don't trust him to be the PG in real games yet, then send him down to the g-league and let him get the reps there.

    Spud Webb did though.

Mugsy is 5'3. Spud is 5'6. Spud is taller and more athletic.

The whole PG thing is a fan thing. The Rockets want mulitple guys to initiate the offense. Reed can be a combo guard, where sometimes he is the initiator and sometimes the SG. That's want Ime wants to do. Now, if he has the offensive chops to pull it off, is debatable.

My favorite kind of dunk, when we need the points: two hands, no windup, no risk of a clang.

Please don't spoil it by telling me he's incapable of doing it any other way

True, though I thought Spud was 5’7”. Either way an NBA player dunking in game on a break away is definitely no big deal. But for a 6’1” player with short arms to dunk two handed in game still takes pretty good athleticism.

mugys could dunk a volleyball, don’t think he could grip the nba ball. He had ups.

Basketball-Reference listed him as 5'6. But you are right. He was known as 5'7.

Not in an NBA game, true, but there are lots of guys on record as saying they saw him dunk. And he's nearly a foot shorter than Reed.

The point is: It shouldn't be a big deal that a 6'2" NBA player can dunk. That's a given,
