The Astros cannot afford to lose Yordan for any significant period of time. He should be playing the outfield sparingly, at most. Also, even if Gamel does get the majority of at bats against right-handed pitchers, it doesn’t change the fact the Astros need an upgrade in their outfield. You can start Jake Meyers in center field when you have him flanked with good hitting right-and-left fielders. The Astros don’t have that right now.
Yea I agree. I'm ok with Dubon/Meyers/Chas against a LHP, but against RHP even if Chas bounces back, it would be an awful OF. Not below average, not bad, awful
Yea let's not be tricked into thinking Gamel is a legit OF for a team with championship on it's mind If we get a little over a .700 OPS out of him we got what we should expect. The fact that he could be the best option vs RHP is scary for a contender. I really hope Dezenzo/Whitcomb/Leon wins the job, or we see Matthews out there at some point this year
Yea I hate that we only have Altuve and the skeletal remains of Lance left from the first Championship But Crane is far from cheap
Agreed. I hope either Brown finds an impact bat that upgrades the outfield via trade that keeps the team under the CBT, or one of Dezenzo, Melton, Leon or Matthews are ready for a significant role coming out of Spring Training. Cam Smith isn’t a corner outfield option until late this year or in 2026.
LOL at $40 million per year, Boston's going to be begging him to opt out by the final year of the deal.
I completely agree. I’m disappointed that none of Correa, Bregman or Tucker remained Astros for life next to Altuve, but Crane is not cheap and he wants to win every season. That’s why I expect the front office to pursue a trade to upgrade the outfield now that Bregman is off the board.
This stat is kind of misleading though isn't it? He's not facing Boston pitchers at this point. He's gonna face everyone now there.
is he going to play 3B or SS for them? Devers is already there at 3B. unless they planning to play Devers as DH full time.
Good for him. Then majority will cheer when he visits. Good for us. 40M is steep. We have more flexibility and our window is still wide open. There is a fair chance he ages like Abreu.
Depends.. bregman gets hurt for example and 165 million is gone. But I think he believes he takes the 120 in Boston. And then signs a Christian Walker style three-year, $60 million contract at ages 34,35,36 and that gives him his 200 million. Time will tell if people still want bregman at age 34-36.
