I can't think of a superbowl winner who had a worse than average defense, but I can think of those with such offenses (Giants, Bears, etc.). Things have changed the last few years some, because of a watered-down league, offensive minded teams have had success (Broncos & Rams). But just about all the superbowl teams of the 90's had great defenses. The Cowboys, 49ers (once they added Deion, Norton, McDonald), Giants (all D), & Packers (Reggie, Butler, others). Many of the great offensive minded teams of the 90's folded when it came down to it (Vikings--here is a great example, Bills--also a great example, 49ers before adding Deion/McDonald/Norton, Packers before adding White).

What was holding the Bucs down was an abolutely atrociuos offense. If they had an "average" offense they would have whopped up on the Skins and Rams. I still think they need to sign Steve Young or Marino for the season to be superbowl favoriates (because I don't believe in King yet), but everywhere other than QB they are awesume.

Also, remember about the Rams: They had the easiest schedule in the league, played all their playoff games on turf (including the Super Bowl), had most everyone healthy (while the Titans had lost 2 starters in their secondary), and came within a couple of plays of losing (a terrible overrule of a TB catch, huge last minute play by Bruce). Too many things had to fall in place for the Rams, don't look for a repeat performance.

Objectively, Washington looks real good, on paper . On paper Jacksonville has been the best team the last 2 years too, but they have never put it together (they might this year). On paper the Titans should be like 0-5 against the Jags the last couple years. Just adding new individual talent doesn't make for a great defense, they still has to work together and have good coaching (which they have never had since Gibbs left). Plus, the stinkin Skins just will always suck to me and now have an owner that makes Jerry Jones look like a hero and role model. Down with the Skins!!!
