The issue with Fox is probably less beating the Spurs offer than it is committing to that extension. Those third contract max deals for non elite players more often than not turn out bad and we have a lot of extensions coming up. The deal I wish we could go back and do would be throwing a big offer sheet at Austin Reaves two years ago. I can buy that maybe Stone should’ve tried to get in the mix for Hunter. Just about every team could use a Cam Johnson and no one traded for him due to the asking price so I’m not going to kill Stone for that one either.
Yeah what pisses me off the most is that they practically gave him away for free. We could have packaged Tate + Landale + picks to get him. I would even offer Whitmore but I understand Stone's plan to wait for the offseason.
The only thing that concerns me about Hunter is that his defensive win shares are well into the 100s. Now I am not sure if that is because he is a lackluster defender or if its a coaching/team issue. Our players were also far out of the 100s when Silas was the head coach so anyone who says Udoka hasn't changed this team is just spreading misinformation.
If we end up in the 6th place it would be great, and still above the initial expectations for this season. The 2nd place was just a mirage, unfortunately..
Well probably around 20 teams could have made a Luka trade though, he "fits" every team in the league
The Lakers offered 32 year old AD and a future first. We could have offered Green, Jabrari, Reed, Cam and 3 firsts and easily obtained Luca. Much better deal than Lakers!
Mavs fans would have loved getting young cornerstones + picks over AD. Especially now that his groin has snapped. Hope they enjoyed that one win.
You’re criticizing the mavs for not shopping him, which everyone agrees with. They are morons, no doubt about it. But i highly doubt that all these gms knew luka was “available”, or that you can blame them for not knowing.
That'll be you this summer when Stone does nothing again. When you got to shoot, shoot...... Don't talk. Stone just talks. Afraid to pull the trigger.
Saying the mavs shopped him is not remotely based in reality. Shopping him means all teams know and can bid. Cam johnson was shopped for example.
Rockets needed shooting at start of season + still need shooting at mid season. https://spacecityscoop.com/rockets-potential-playoff-flaw-already-starting-show
That’s me right now…..really drank enough of the Kool-Aid to think at the number 2 seed and overachieving that Stone would reward the effort by making a big splash. He’s never done it ever since he was strangely given the GM role as a team lawyer, so shouldn’t have been surprised that he sat on his butt and did absolutely nothing.
The Mavs' GM definitely wasn't afraid to pull the trigger. He made a giant move that he thought would improve his team. Is that what you want from Stone? Huge risks that might easily backfire?
I think he made good moves with PJ Washington and Gafford who gave the Mavs tons of size, length and versatility to go with Luka and Ky and then it got to his head......somehow he felt like the Luka magic of GMs.....I think it's more the nature of when to stop and whereas Stone's issue is where to begin. Different scenarios. Adelson/Dumont ownerships were not fans of Doncic....that is probably the real reason and have no patience. Folks should understand in depth how trigger happy their whole brass is and not just Nico Harrison who is merely a grunt worker. Similar to Ishbia. Cuban is pretty likable in comparison.
