He wasn't and isn't ready for the NBA. Any positive Houston gets from him this season is a bonus. That's NOT what you want from the number three pick in the draft, but it is what it is. He needs to work hard in the offseason in the same way that Amen Thompson did and come back next season as a better version of himself. I'm pretty sure he's going to do exactly that. He's a good basketball player, but he's not a good NBA basketball player. Yet.
At this point the Rockets will be very lucky to get 6 to 7 years of 16 and 6 from Reed. A good solid role player but nothing generational. And nothing worth tanking for either, lesson learned hopefully.
I'm sorry but any post that references CORE 6 or CORE 7 is ridiculous. There is NO such thing. If you look at the most successful contemporary team, they had a CORE 3, that's it! Every other starter and/or significant player was a vet signing. I'm sorry but it's a ridiculous take to claim core 6 or core 7. Pick your Core 3 players and the rest should be replaced with strategic vet signings.
I don't think we intentionally tanked for this draft. We just got lucky with the lottery. And there weren't really many players who were better than Reed Sheppard. Most of the better rookies this year have high floor but limited upside. I don't know how Reed will turn out. But I don't get the "He is the 3rd pick!" hysteria.
No, apparently I was wrong ......you got me to look it up. The NCAA moved the 3-point line to the international distance of 22 feet, 1 3/4 inches for the 2021-22 season So, the corner 3 is relatively the same but the top is still quite a bit different.......but not as much as I thought. Thanks. DD
Third pick in this draft was like the 10th pick in a "normal" draft. You're not that surprised when the 10th pick ends up struggling. Is what it is.
We dont have a big 3 to have a big 3 one of those guys should be an MVP contender. If we just have say Sengun, Amen and Jalen this team would struggle to get over 0.500. Whats ridiculous is you having preconceived notions on what a team composition should be. As long as the team roster fits under the 2nd apron you can have as many core players as you want.
So many players are averaging more than 3.8 on 40% TS so you are wrong there. Sheppard is 6'1 and isnt very quick or athletic if others have limited upside he does as well. He is the third pick regardless how weak the draft is third pick is third pick.
Meh I don't know. When TyTy struggled as the 29th pick it was not all that surprising. Reed has been a lesser TyTy.
He's low key playing a lot better, but until he gets whatever mental block he has with his shooting corrected its gonna be a struggle. If he never does he won't be long for the league.
Good to see Reed Sheppard looking much better than before. I’ll do a full analysis after the playoffs—but only if he gets meaningful minutes for the rest of the season and in the postseason. If he doesn’t, his confidence won’t improve, and neither will his shooting. Development comes with opportunity.
This was a solid game for Reed. He hit the open three he needs to be hitting. His defense was very solid, pesky. He was brawling with the seven footer Richards to the point where he looked like he made a remark to Dillon like "watch your little guy there!" I love the fight. He made good decisions with the ball. Even when he doesn't shoot, he spreads the floor and opens up things for others. +12 on the night.
