That is because you are hyper focused on me.....but there is hope, that you can become a better person, before you are stuffed back in the locker like you were in HS. I mean you are so infatuated you named yourself after me....I should be flattered but I know it is based upon low self-esteem on your part. Now I lay me down to sleep................let Trump die before no one wakes. DD
Elon / DOGE / Vought via the NIH director just capped NIH "overhead" grants at 15% Long thread on this here https://bsky.app/profile/carlbergstrom.com/post/3lhmtolcc6s2c The Federal Government just capped indirect rates for new and existing grants for research at universities at 15%. Capping indirect costs was on page 355 of Project 2025’s Mandate for Leadership This effectively means that all university funded biomedical research in the US - an engine of a multi trillion $ sector of the economy - is over @Os Trigonum is this a good idea? Do you think some research universities - like Cornell - for example should get rid of some less important cost centers to make up for this?
The US university research system is literally the envy of the world and an emblem of national pride. It is also the engine on which our technology based economy is built Why are we committing national economic suicide by bankrupting it by withdrawing NIH/NSF support... ....because some pencil neck heritage foundation theocracy **** & a drugged up Nazi sympathizer want to? @Os Trigonum seems bad right?
The effective medium term result here is going to be that probably 100s of medical schools and university hospitals close - what is the solution for this? Why is this a good idea? Who actually voted for this idea? @Os Trigonum what is the point of this?
I'm assuming the Texas Med Center is going to be absolutely devastated by these Trump/Musk/Vought cuts. Just sad & awful. @Os Trigonum ?
Any idea on why these people are so f*king dumb @Os Trigonum "Many of my good friends have their funding withdrawn or frozen based on the DEIA wording such as 'diverse microbes'" a scientist reliant on federal research grants told me, adding NSF proposals with terms including 'disabilities' and 'female' have been put on hold I thought this was our best & brightest meritocrats and they are just the dumbest people you'd ever meet
For the record this is all money that Congress appropriated - every state gets hundreds of millions or even billions from Congress for this Not only is it suicidal and murderous to let a drugged up billionaire and a bunch right wing theocrats cancel this - it is illegal @Os Trigonum any layoffs yet?
NiH grant destruction is going to be bad nationwide but going to destroy places like Alabama where UAB hospitals ($400 million from NIH annually) are among the biggest employers & healthcare providers in the state. Can anyone tell me why this illegal action is a good idea?
NIH grants are essentially government-funded R&D. R&D drives long-term growth and benefits. You might not see the impact immediately, but everyone alive today has benefited immensely - from the internet to breakthroughs in cancer treatment. If you want to cut funding because you think it's bloated, fine. But this is just another Project 2025 move. They believe these cuts target "leftist ideologies" (go read up on Project 2025). As usual, reality tells a different story. Red states receive more funding than blue states, and now their governments are speaking up, saying 'Wait... maybe be a little more precise with those cuts.'
Red states get more money from Dept of Education too. In general Red states get more handouts, but they seem to be against getting handouts?
Supplemental Guidance to the 2024 NIH Grants Policy Statement: Indirect Cost Rates Notice Number: NOT-OD-25-068 Key Dates Release Date: February 7, 2025 https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-25-068.html#:~:text=Yet the average indirect cost,in some cases over 60%.
https://www.thecornellreview.org/cornell-faces-financial-challenges/ In terms of federal research grants, Cornell marks up each grant to recover up to a 64% overhead factor that is approved by federal auditors. If the Trump Administration were to demand that the overhead factor be reduced, Cornell’s ability to construct, maintain, and renovate research labs would vanish. Yet, Cornell has borrowed billions in a bet that research overhead funding will continue. Thoughts? Should Cornell give up being a research institution? Why?
Who do the majority of Americans trust to make the right recommendations when it comes to health issues? When it comes to their doctor, scientists who work for the National Institutes of Health, or NIH, The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, or HHS, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS, their state and local public health officials, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA the majority of Americans trust them. When it comes to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Dr. Mehmet, and Trump, the majority of Americans don't trust them to make the right recommendations when it comes to health issues. https://www.kff.org/health-informat...on-health-information-and-trust-january-2025/
Folks - 2 court orders stopping the illegal and self owning attempt to kill the NIH & destroy this country's scientific research base (on the whims of a drugged up unelected Nazi billionaire) Administration refusing to comply https://popular.info/p/trump-maintains-funding-freeze-at This is a fascist regime. This is "first they came for" stuff. Not hyperbolic. This is the government openly breaking the law to hurt it's own citizens - for the purposes of hurting it's own citizens It's going to get worse & worse.
The malevolence is also dosed with extreme ignorance & incompetence these guys are breaking things - like ending all cancer research - without even knowing it Again it's amazing that the self proclaimed techno king doesn't understand anything about scientific research or the government he has illegally taken control of.
