The Luka and Mark Williams trades crystallized something for me. Front offices can have very different opinions of their own players than you’d think. A theory I’ve had about our FO:

If you read between the lines, there’s a lot of evidence that our FO doesn’t really believe in Jalen or Sengun. Or Cam or Reed.

But the FO knows they are good young players, with hot reputations, on reasonable contracts with long team control. To maximize our long term success we’d need to showcase them as young stars of a good team. And we need to convince the league we really like our “core”.

    This is a showcase season.

That’s why the FO loves to re-iterate that we plan to keep all 7 guys. That this core is great. But spend future assets to help this group this year? … uh, no.

Long term, in any endeavor, you should always expect management to ride with the people they truly believe in. Don’t be surprised if Amen, Jabari, and Tari are the only faces here long term.

If KD leaves then maybe suns would consider tanking and the Rockets can trade Fred and the suns pick for Booker.
Amen would run pg, Keep Green, Sengun.

I’m not the biggest Booker fan but thats probably something that could happen. I wish we had gone Fox….

Not a fan of an older and sensitive KD

Gets no credit for the successful rebuild but as soon as we go on a losing streak you want him fired? Stone can't win with some of you lol

It will take more than 1 or 2 seasons to evaluate, for now only Alpe and Amen seem to be locks, one is special offensively, the other defensively, Tari's health is a tad frightening.

It is hard to even give FVV 25 million because we don't know much about the rest of the prospects.

No GM's are taking him serious.

Atlanta is the only team that he has on speed dial and they love making Houston
    their dumping grounds.

It's hysterical to see the wild leaps of logic some of you are making, based solely on the fact that Stone didn't pull the trigger on a deal for Booker, KD, or Fox. I guarantee if he had gotten any of those three, you'd all be screaming that he WAY overpaid because he's lazy, incompent, not a true basketball guy, is a lawyer, and is bald.

This site is pure comedy gold every year around the trade deadline.

The whining in this thread is meh. Could you imagine if we were Miami with the Butler saga? LOL. NBA players get paid tons of money. Our players are trying to get paid a lot of money. Some of yall acting like the future is dead cause they are exhausted.

The all star break exist for a reason. The veterans know how to manage their bodies to be good enough to hit pension.

Our young team is leaving it out there and fighting.
If these guys are competitors (I think it’s obvious to they are for the most part), they will continue to get better and that means they make more money.

    Be happy with the progress.

Exactly, they don’t respect him. He has no real connections or relationships around the league.

You have ZERO evidence of that. It's just a whiny opinion, not a fact.

He’s built no relationships with the other GMs because he doesn’t have anything in common as he is a lawyer….not a basketball mind. Only decent trade he’s ever made in his whole career was Sengun. Every other deal has been bad. Heard Tilman picked Udoka as it was his call. He let Stone waste 3 years on Silas and said no more.

Couldn’t agree more….good post! Stone is also the most egotistical pompous individual I’ve ever listened too. He thinks and acts like he’s the greatest GM of all time in his interactions with the media. He’s been the GM that had the same worst 3 year record in NBA history as his head coach Silas. He should have been tossed out the door with Silas, but somehow we still have this loser running the team.

The astros set a record for most losses over a 3 year span under Luhnow, who’s unquestionably the best gm in any sport in my lifetime. OKC did the same thing and are the best team in the league now.

Yea it's mind boggling that people can't comprehend losing seasons as an integral part of a rebuild. If they think this team lacks talent now, where was the talent going to come from if they never tanked, and how much winning do they think would have been possible? This team had zero assets after morey went all in multiple years in a row with nothing to show for it.

Saying “nothing to show for it” is pretty ridiculous. He built one of the 10-15 best teams ever, they just happened to run into the best team ever built in team sports. I’m not saying stone is in morey’s league obviously, and i don’t even think he’s all that good but blaming him for this season, which has been an unmitigated success, is nuts.

Yes they are and I'm not saying I want Stone fired. But every other contender made moves to get better while Stone sat on his hands and the players are playing like a team that needed help and Stone failed them.

If Stone doesn't care about improving their team, Why should I spend the time watching them?
