with a lack of depth at the SF and PG? what are the available free agents the rockets could possibly target? just curious
how about Bobby Sura, Charlie Ward, Ryan Bowen, or maybe an undrafted FA like David Hawkins or Derrick Zimmerman !
if you are talking about next year.... there is a solid chance that we land antonio daniels. if not him then maybe marco jaric or earl watson. i personaly like steve blake. there are better guys out there but we don't have the $ to go after them. as for SF: eric williams has a player option. luke walton would be a nice fit. bowen might be re-signed for his defense, but raja bell plays D and can shoot ala bruce bowen. jason kapono and kyle korver are great shooters. kukoc, sprewell, and glen robinson will have to take less $ next year because of age. if i was the GM next year i would offer stromile swift all that we can. he is a rockets fan and would be a perfect fit next to yao. if he signs, we can move howard for a 3 or a 1. but thats just me.
sorry, i need to clarify... the free agents for next year... ward, lue, sura, bowen are alright for now...but they are not players we can seriously consider having longterm.
Did Stromile Swift get a multi-year contract from Grizzlies? There'll be some nice PG FA next year, but we may not have any money under the cap to afford them.
Swift signed a One year contract after his rookie year therefore he will be unrestricted FA in 05-06.
Can Swift play the three? If he can that would be nice but i dont think we can fork over the kind of cash hes looking for. For PG i like Bjax or Jaric. Walton is a nice option. I was really impressed with him in the playoffs and he could be a good player. Thoes two players could be signed cheap and with a young tandem of Yao,Tmac,Walton(sorry Boki),Jaric and who the hell knows maybe Baidien (spelling?) will pan out I kno hes got some big time fans here. The only two contracts that expire next year that i can remeber are Lue and DM.
You can write off Swift. He'd have to take a significant pay cut to sign with the Rox, and the odds of a young NBA player doing that are slim.
Here are some FA's that we could pickup: PG Tony Delk Atlanta Free Agent Dan Dickau Dallas Restricted Free Agent Speedy Claxton Golden State Free Agent Jamaal Tinsley Indiana Free Agent Nick Van Exel Portland Free Agent Antonio Daniels Seattle Free Agent Raul Lopez Utah Restricted Free Agent Damon Jones Miami Free Agent SG Jiri Welsch Boston Restricted Free Agent Kareem Rush L.A. Lakers Restricted Free Agent Doug Christie Sacramento Free Agent Cuttino Mobley Orlando Free Agent Juan Dixon Washington Restricted Free Agent SF Walter McCarty Boston Free Agent Devean George L.A. Lakers Free Agent Jared Jeffries Washington Restricted Free Agent PF Tyson Chandler Chicago Free Agent Chris Wilcox L.A. Clippers Restricted Free Agent Zach Randolph Portland Free Agent C Lorenzen Wright Memphis Free Agent Kelvin Cato Orlando Free Agent Samuel Dalembert Philadelphia Free Agent Brendan Haywood Washington Free Agent Here are our FA's next summer: Jimmy Jackson Houston Free Agent Yao Ming Houston Restricted Free Agent Dikembe Mutombo Houston Free Agent Scott Padgett Houston Free Agent Clarence Weatherspoon Houston Free Agent I put Smileys next to players that would fit well and that we have a shot at actually getting.
i think devean george would be a sweet pickup for next year... he can hit the three... he can rebound, and he for sure knows his place on a team. hes a big tall than normal so it could create matchup problems for other teams. his threepoint ability is something we can really utilize since it will strech the court leaving holes for mcgrady and yao to work with.
Devean George's 3 point ability is suspect. I saw none of it against the Pistons, and he attempts less than 3 of them per game even though the number of open looks he got with Shaq and Kobe is just incredible. JJ attempted 5 3 pointers each game. That's exactly what the Rockets are looking for in a small forward. I'd look at Vladimir Radmanovic before George. Vladimir is developing into a killer 3 point shooter, and he likes to take a lot of them.
is vladimir going to be a free agent, b/c if so that would be sweet. how much do u think he would be asking for? i would think more than what we can offer.
I'd take any of these guys.... PG Speedy Claxton Golden State Free Agent Jamaal Tinsley Indiana Free Agent Nick Van Exel Portland Free Agent Antonio Daniels Seattle Free Agent Damon Jones Miami Free Agent SG Kareem Rush L.A. Lakers Restricted Free Agent Doug Christie Sacramento Free Agent Cuttino Mobley Orlando Free Agent (McGrady's backup) Juan Dixon Washington Restricted Free Agent SF Walter McCarty Boston Free Agent (That's Mah-Kahtee in Bostonian) Devean George L.A. Lakers Free Agent Jared Jeffries Washington Restricted Free Agent PF Tyson Chandler Chicago Free Agent Chris Wilcox L.A. Clippers Restricted Free Agent Zach Randolph Portland Free Agent C Lorenzen Wright Memphis Free Agent Kelvin Cato Orlando Free Agent (Back-up center, like he should have been) Brendan Haywood Washington Free Agent
Vladimir Radmanovic is going to be a restricted free agent. He has complained many times that he is not a power forward. However, the Sonics are forced to play him at that position due to Rashard Lewis being on the roster. Because of this, he asked for some crazy contract. Hedo Turkogolu got a full MLE offer from the Magic. They are similar players.
McCarty is pretty good at the 3 point shot. I think he plays the power forward position with the Celtics since Pierce plays SF. However, he is probably really a SF.
vlad would be a great pick-up. great shooter. above average defender. 6'10" would give great hight to our perimeter with 6'8" tmac. if we could sign 6'7" marco jaric.....the idea just makes me happy. next summer spoons ending contract and the $5.4M TE will be our most tradable assets. the trio of ward, lue, and gaines will most likely be back next year. i expect the team to go after a tall SF so teams will be forced to play thier 2guard on tmac.
