Keith Law with interesting takes. Players quit developing at 24, and an .876 OPS is things coming apart.
Keith Law at one point in the last century was actually progressive and open minded. At this point he is circling the drain and is more interested in politics, board games and obscure recipes - than he is baseball. I kid you not - I really think the only reason he likes Cam Smith is because the Cubs drafted him.
Bottom 6 in the rankings 5 straight years but probably top 10 in overall farm production during that time. Hmm.
I get that this is subjective.... but there are a number of teams at the bottom of this list that I do not agree with.
I was a little disappointed listening to Dana Brown talk about Blubaugh as “one of our depth guys.” I think he’s the best pitching prospect in the system and has an excellent combo of floor/ceiling. You can never project somebody as an ace but I see a decent probability for him to be a good #3 starter.
I agree that he has a pretty good chance to become a #3 starter. Currently have Blubaugh's ceiling at #3 starter and am in the process of evaluating his floor to begin the season. Last year I rated his floor as a multi inning relief pitcher. The next step up would be a seventh inning set up man. To move his floor up I need to be convinced he has shown an increased ability to handle pitching under pressure. I would like to hear your thoughts about this.
Maybe Dana’s trying to keep him under the radar in trade talks. Only reason I say this is because he sure did hype up Bloss and even Looerfido to an extent but I think Blubaugh has a good chance to be more impactful than either of those guys.
I took that as He's not on the 40 man and a dozen others are, so he is an option but Dana poopoo'd it because he won't see Houston unless several others get hurt- like 5+
In February of 24 I had Spencer Arrighetti listed as the Astros 16th best prospect. With the floor of a 7th inning relief pitcher and the ceiling of a #5 starter he was listed as a C+ prospect. Blanco was not listed. Probably indicating that I had his ceiling in the pen. That is where I draw the line on including pitchers on my most valuable prospect lists. Hopefully they will both exceed my projections.
The Astros believe it’s Miguel Ullola or at least did the last time I spoke to someone that would know. They were very high on him - wouldn’t discuss him in a lot of trades.
