I'm happy overall. I was terrified that Tillman would push him to go all in on a guy like KD or Jimmy Butler who are at the end of their careers. Instead, the core remains together and we added some draft capital while losing nothing. We also added another guy with non-guaranteed salary we can add as filler in a deal to make numbers work. I think that's worth noting since a few of our guys expire outright at the end of the season. It wasn't flashy, but it improved our future flexibility without hurting us in the slightest today. My complaints are minor. 1. would loved to have done those trades in the reverse order so we could have given Jaden Springer a look. Not the end of the world, but, at the least, Springer is exactly the kind of guy Ime would love having in scrimmages. And he's young enough that maybe our staff could make something of him. 2. I also just really wished we could find a suitable backup point guard. Our turnovers have been outrageous since Fred went down. I was hoping Lonzo Ball would be a buyout candidate, but instead he was extended. Now it appears we have to hope for a guy like Ben Simmons to shake loose. That's a wild thing to be wishing for. Any other guys capable of playing point guard that might get bought out?
He needs to be fired for the Green extension and sitting on his ass while his team needs better rotational players and plenty of expiring contracts and picks to make a move. The thought that he's keeping things ready for an off-season where he again will do ****ing nothing is laughable at this point.
Lmao. Ungrateful much? Stone assembled a collection of young talent that other teams would be envious of. A group that is sitting 3rd in the West defying all expectations. He should be fired now? You should be fired as a fan.
We're not built to go deep in the playoffs. Bringing in another closer wasn't really going to change that. We're too young. I appreciate not making trades just for the sake of making trades. I'd be more upset if we had a 36 year old Kevin Durant right now.
We have just seen that true difference making stars shake loose unexpectedly all of the time in the NBA. While you may think they should have backed up the truck for D'Aaron Fox, or Durant, what if they used all of their assets and couldn't get an elite player who is available? I think Stone reckons the juice wasn't worth the squeeze for oft-injured players like Robert Williams, or the Cam Johnsons of the world. Let's see what happens during buy out season.
Green’s extension is probably the asset that gets us a star this summer. If Jalen goes into RFA this summer he’s now less valuable because a team would have to max him out. Now a team has two years of Jalen locked in and even if he’s still inconsistent he’s still a nice salary to use in trades
It's like a collective amnesia that this team just made huge jumps of improvement two seasons in a row and is stacked with 22 year old talent. The shiny object and grass greener is tough for many fans it seems. Developing what we have is the strong, patient move. By not making trades and developing, we just created a new all-star this year, a DPOY candidate, and might have one or two more all stars next year.
Stone was literally on vacation during this trade deadline. Let's see how nonchalant he is next trade deadline. Tilman does not strike me as a patient man.
Yeah but we have potential for two elite stars and one avg who is gonna be good enough if the other two becomes them
you're not wrong but who do we add that can shoot? During the deadline there wasn't a ton of sharpshooters being traded or on the market even
“We like what we have, and we’re doing OK, and feel we can do a lot better,” Rockets coach Ime Udoka said after the deadline. “So we want to continue to grow as a group, watch our young guys develop and play in big situations, and see what we have.” Udoka said the Rockets did not internally consider trading for a depth piece. “No, we think we’re pretty deep as is, and it’s nothing long-term,” he said. “Obviously, Fred is week-to-week but should be back in a matter of games and others are just banged up at times, similar to everybody around this time of year. And we want to finish strong before All-Star break, get rested up and finish strong down the stretch.” The situation did not worry Rockets guard Jalen Green, who said on Thursday morning that he was content with Houston’s roster. “I think I’m good,” Green said. “I mean number two in the West, number three now. We’ve held our ground pretty much the whole season, so I don’t think we need to add nothing or subtract nothing. I think we just got to get back to being ourselves.”
Don't force sh*t. That's what Morey did with cp3/Westbrook and look @ how that that could have turned if not for a few lucky ping-pong ball bounces. Let the current roster get som playoff experience and then use the summer to maneuver when you have more $ flexibility and Suns pick becomes less of an unknown.
Can one of you jamokes who thinks by standing pat Stone was lazy tell us what trade was available that was so awesome we turned it down? Hell let’s talk about if Luka was made available to the league who could’ve put the best package together. I guarantee rockets would have been one of the top teams and we would’ve broken the core up for that. Bravo to Stone for not over paying!
The biggest disappointment for me is he should have tried harder on Fox. Obviously Fox wanted to be a Spur but the Spurs got him for peanuts. He should have sabotaged that trade and force a rental.
We have kept the same core and improved dramatically each season. What player offers us a better future than standing pat? Dont make a trade just to make a trade.
Beautiful deadline. Love the fact Stone is letting this team grow. We're set up for great things this summer, regardless of how this season ends. Kudos to him.
