I can say for me, Phoenix acquired Durant while sending out 4 FRPs, a FRP swap that looks better than most FRPs, Bridges who was dealt for 5 FRPs and Cam Johnson just 2 years ago,. That is like 11 FRPs in value they traded for Durant. That's a sunk cost for Phoenix, but I think it will be hard for their owner to swallow not getting close to that back.
Why is it so difficult to understand? We're not selling out...cashing in all PHX assets and core player (s) for 2 seasons of Durant and a perceived window. Again, many are dismissing the downside risk of injury/falling off a cliff. Yeah, it's Slim Reapa, but Father Time is undefeated, and he is the primary reason we are shorting the Suns. We're playing the long game...decade long window...and can't afford to pony up all that it would take for him. It destroys what we can move later to continue contending. Until a target more commensurate with our time table becomes available, we tweak to meet our needs...organic growth.
It’s stupid because next year ain’t promised. No other major star is becoming available and Booker sure as hell isn’t any time soon.
It doesn't mean you trade everything for KD. I love KD, I think he would be a great fit here, but if the asking price is too high, then the Rockets just need to let it go. We can't be mad about that.
It's the percentage play. And, it's just a matter of time regarding PHX's demise. Book, in the offseason won't seem so farfetched....Stone's ready. This deadline was always going to be too early for Matt Ishbia.
Phoenix played amazing along with some luck those first 9 games. They go 4-5 instead of 8-1 in those games, and I think Ishbia cracks if they were basically a long shot for the play-in right now.
We don't know what the Suns want. In fact, he was almost traded to the Warriors but then KD said no (allegedly). What were the Warriors giving then Suns? Were they getting Jimmy which is why they were willing to make the deal? We really don't know. We don't want to give up everything, but we don't know what the actual asking price would be for KD (at least what they would ask from the Rockets). We know at this time they have no further interest in trading KD since they likely want to roll the dice and see if they can get into the playoffs (bad gamble since their schedule is tough to finish the season).
Im glad we’re staying put (or so it seems). This team has been a pleasant surprise and who knows who might become available in the future.
Yeah, I concur. It was looking sweet for awhile...the collapse coming almost immediately. It would have definitely forced his hand.
Sounds like after KD said no to the Warriors, the Heat tried to work directly with PHX on a trade, but that they were asking for a huge haul for KD. I’d say this is sounding less likely, at this point. I can admit that I’m impatient, so that’s why I’ll be bummed if we don’t make any significant moves. We are obviously way ahead of our rebuild, but we’ve suffered through 30 years of high expectations and then injuries with Yao/Tmac, then Harden and co always running in the Warriors, then a few awful seasons of “basketball”. I’m ready for a title run, and I feel like we are one stud scorer from that. That being said, I can understand not trading away what we sucked for years to acquire. I just wish there was an Ant, Booker, etc level player out there to grab that would make sense in parting with our assets. Perhaps this offseason..
Pretty sure this place is going to be on meltdown mode after no trade and after we lose to Minni tonight.
Stay put don't make any moves see how we do in the playoffs Hopefully 2nd round team and then make moves to make us better.
People who think Durant will make us instant contender apparently believe that we can get him without losing any of our core players.
The only real difference makers in play were Fox and Durant. Sac and Phoenix were obviously asking too much for Stone and so now standing pat is just fine. I think he is smart to not give up the farm for those 2 players and wait until the off-season to see if something materializes. I wanted Durant for a reasonable price this season, but wouldn't give up more than the Phoenix 25 swap and filler for him in the off-season. I don't really want Booker as I don't think he makes us contenders either. Just ride it out until we have a chance at a real superstar, we may already have one or two without doing anything.
