They were pretty much trying to salary dump him last summer. He might have been available for basically expirings. The 1st is a godsend for them.
Schroeder is exactly who we need as a backup PG. I’d trade Tate, Holiday, and Landale for him in a heartbeat. Fred can’t handle logging 35 minutes a game. Amen thrives best around the dunker’s spot. We’ve got to make the most of our efficiency.
Fred has been averaging 35+ mpg for six consecutive seasons ever since he became a full-time starter. He misses at least 10 games almost every year. This is nothing new.
It's been 30 years since the last time Rockets win championship. I hope Rockets can be aggressive on being contender.
what's the asking price for Zion now that they traded Ingram for a bag of chips? if it's Cam + 1st i'm willing to take a risk. Fred / Green / Zion / Amen / Jabari would be a fun small ball lineup. Shep / Brooks / Tari / Zion / Sengun is another fun lineup.
We’d have to throw in Brooks or FVV to make the money work. The interesting thing about Zion is his contract is not guaranteed, so there’s not a ton of risk if the price is right, other than the sunk cost of trying to make it work if it doesn’t.
Yeah, we definitely need to reduce his minutes. I’m just torn over whether we need a backup PG as opposed to just giving Reed more minutes.
Stone won’t make a deal citing giving the team a chance to prove themselves. In the offseason, he’ll claim that he liked the internal development and the team was hindered by injuries. Rinse and repeat next season. Half of CF eats this up btw. Do you know how stagnant of a GM you have to be to not even get adequate backup help when stars and superstars are going for pennies? It can’t be that hard to get bench players.
To be real, I’m not sold on Reed as the PG right now. He has to show the playmaking ability for that role. I see him more as a dependable shooter who should be coming off the bench behind Jalen.
I get the stand pat and let the young players prove themselves but Stone should be reminded what those players looked like before Ime, FVV, and Brooks joined. Vets matter and make a huge difference in the performance of young players. If you want to evaluate them, give them the best shot to perform!
This. It doesn't require more data to see what our weaknesses are. This team can't shoot and has inadequate backup PG play. We have our stars and can afford to let Sengun, Amen and Jalen improve with experience. None of those 3 will solve our shooting woes or our backup PG play though. Failing to address either of these issues would be a mistake. Cam Johnson should be available for the Nets 2027 pick swap that we own plus expiring contracts. That pick swap should have a lot of value to the Nets as it would give them flexibility to tank in 2027 if they can't acquire enough young talent in the next 2 drafts. Jose Alvarado should be available for a heavily protected first or a handful of 2nd-rounders. Both are on great contracts. Both would still have value this off-season. It's also never a certainty that young, successful teams will improve with time. The Pelicans were first in the West a couple seasons ago with a super-talented young roster. Then, injuries occurred and the Pelicans are currently praying for luck in the lottery this year. Doing nothing is a choice. In this situation, it is the wrong choice. We want our guys to obtain playoff experience this year. They'll obtain much more playoff experience if we win a couple of series in the playoffs.
There is a reason that Schroeder gets passed around like a fat stripper at a bachelor party. He also is not shooting well from outside. We are waiting on Brogdon in the buy out market. He is too expensive to trade for at over 20M. He isn't shooting well this year either. I just think anybody Stone wants is being overpriced and he is smart to sit on his hands and not overpay. To me if Phoenix won't play, we are done until guys get bought out.
Why is it the wrong choice? What difference would it make in the long run? The only move I could see that would both improve our title window and improve us in the long run is KD but the money doesn't work unless we move one or both of the vets. I also don't think the Rockets want anyone coming in to take shots away from Amen or Sengun.
Why is it the wrong choice? On wrong or not, I think going after Cam Johnson would be beneficial, but I could be wrong. The Nets might want too much for him and a deal doesn't get done. I think this is likely. I think it is stupid of the Nets to burn up a lot of Johnson's value on that team, but hey the Knicks rewarded their stupidity last time. What difference would it make in the long run? In the long run (within 4-5 years), Cam Johnson would provide an elite shooting forward in case the Rockets have a guard that is not good at shooting threes. Short run, Rockets are short on shooting and he's an elite Maybe the draft capital is too much. I like the fit. 2 FRPs is a no unless protected Houston picks. The only move I could see that would both improve our title window and improve us in the long run is KD but the money doesn't work unless we move one or both of the vets. KD is an obvious short term move and will not help much past this season and maybe next. As a star, it would obvious include paying for the name as well as the production. Durant probably costs more than Cam Johnson, is a little better now, but Cam Johnson will be better within 2 years (i.e., Durant cost versus production will be bad more than Cam is a better player than he is now). The money works with dealing just expirings to get KD. A deal for KD only works if the Suns decide to rebuild as hard to win a win now trade when both teams are trying to win now. The Suns would have outbid GS for Jimmy if they were willing to move Durant for win now pieces(I.e., Jimmy is better than what Houston has to offer for win now). I like KD, but I think Phoenix's owner values KD only a little less than the value they gave up for him if talking draft capital. I think standing pat is a fine position. I just would not turtle up for KD or stand pat regarding not exploring other players. I don't expect much regarding trades as I think Brooklyn and Phoenix have the players the Rockets want, but not at the prices the Rockets want. I've seen Nets and Suns fans say they have the leverage. I just don't see Stone caving when standing pat is better than if he overpays.
