Current baseball thinking is that the bunt is a waste of an out.

I think it's not that cut and dry.

They should have had Meyers and Pena spend much of the offseason learning to drag bunt and sacrifice bunt - specifically vs RHP when the situation dictates moving the runner or they are facing a pitcher who has them overmatched

They both have the speed to raise the chances of getting on base above the level that fuelled the thinking that got the play shelved. Also, hitting in front of Altuve and company makes getting runners on/in scoring position a valuable scenario.

And it's way better than a strikeout.

I for one would love Michael Bourne on this team. Was super underrated in his prime.

    Where's the 3B playing? 1B?

"Current baseball thinking" can kiss my ass. As you said, it's not that cut and dry.

Brett Butler is the most consistently good bunter I have seen. He wouldn’t show the bunt until late and his form was perfect.

Ichiro is the best I have the last 30 years and was the absolute best at bunting balls anywhere on the plate.

I have had a lot of old timers swear Mickey Mantle was the best bunter of the live ball era.

He was always my favorite, and not just because of his name. Dude could just lay it down whenever he wanted.
