[WaPo] Trump moves to wrest control of USAID as Musk says, ‘We’re shutting it down’

Rubio is an advocate of USAID in the past. In 2022, he urged President Biden to prioritize it, along with the defense budget, in order to counter the growing influence of the CCP, particularly China’s expansive Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) that I mentioned earlier.

Who is Rubio now, three years later? Who knows.

Regarding the USAID reorganization, the sensible approach would be to restructure the agency in phases. The executive branch has the authority to do this, as long as it is faithfully executing the law (and asking for public feedback would be a plus). What we're seeing now is chaos - including, but not limited to, wasting resources like food already sitting at ports and rotting away, putting USAID personnel at risk in dangerous regions overseas, risking the spread of diseases, and endangering the lives of children and others who depend directly on US aid.

I also have my doubts: Is Rubio truly leading the effort to reorganize USAID, or is he merely a figurehead while the agency is being dismantled from within - not faithfully executing the law as required by the Constitution. And what happened to the funds that Congress appropriated for USAID?

(There is amplifying the worst-case scenarios, and there is disinformation. I see examples already, such as USAID being created out of thin air by the executive. Now, I am seeing a lack of understanding of what media influence means (or countering influences via media usage by other countries like China and Russia), apparently not understanding that the US doesn’t provide aid to others simply out of goodwill, but to exert influence.)

You may not believe this, but I'm of the opinion the federal government should pretty much only worry itself with protecting the nation's sovereignty and keeping a standing military. Far from it. I asked myself plenty of questions. I have personally purchased Reuters courseware before at the enterprise level. I have the context to more than likely know what is going on there. Joe Twitter user, however, clearly doesn't.

Giving people the information is fine, but what you're getting from these websites is not adequate to make judgments most of the time. Imagine trying to summarize a multi million dollar program into about 10 words?

Like I said, I'm not making judgments about the use of the money. I'm far too removed from the ground level to make that call. But at least I have the humility to admit that.
