Those programs ARE NEEDED. Just because they are not perfect doesnt mean you WHOLE SALE destroy them.

This is equivalent to the "defund the police"

You guys like cuts to government spending to reduce debt, AND NEVER EVER TALK ABOUT TAX CUTS, WHY? Why do you bootlick the rich?

I don't see USAID anywhere in that link or the database.

According to the link, several agencies purchased licenses to Politico's Pro product.

This is not Politico the publication, but an enterprise software platform designed specifically for government and government adjacent organizations.

As I stated before, the license per user per year seemed fairly reasonable.

If you wanna be mad cuz liberals r bad n stuff, that's on you. Plenty of conservatives getting money from the government, I assure you. But there's nothing below board to get your jimmies all rustled about here.

Plenty of runway to argue about whether these agencies should exist at all, though.

"They stole the 2020 election from me."

"I didn't know about the payments to Stormy Daniels"

    "Windmill noise causes cancer"

"My healthcare plan is coming in two weeks"

"I won the youth vote by 35%"

These are just the ones off the top of my head - there are literally hundreds of other complete lies that Trump has said...... so not sure you want to play the "lie game".

Trump lied about the war in Ukraine ending before he took office too..... but at some point it becomes impossible to get track of how many lies he has said and continues to say.

Well they cut USAid funding and payroll was short… so…

Not independent media if they took $1. NYT too.

All these crazy amounts are cover for fraud, laundering

Operation Mockingbird is alive and well.

    It’s paid for fake subscriptions
And then the company was sold for a billion based on those numbers.

    The fraud is staggering

Honestly, Im tired....I thought maybe, if I tried to logically reason with people on here, they would change their minds.

I dont think facts and data are going to convince the conservatives here.

You are seeing what you want to see - at least based on what we know.

Also they were not "crazy amounts" for what they got.

You are being Rick Rolled -- they are purposely lying and being deceptive.

I hesitate . . . but in fact nobody is really talking about "wholesale destruction" of these programs. Rubio has been very clear that essential programs/funding will remain under the purview of the Dept of State, and it's pretty clear that USAID will remain as some kind of agency entity absent Congressional action to abolish it.

I think what the DOGE folks are aiming at is the fairly sizable amount of excess in the USAID total budget that goes nowhere near any of the people in need in countries abroad. That plus the likely CIA influence throughout the entire agency.

Folks forget and/or underestimate the extent to which the CIA appeared to actively undermine the Trump 1.0 administration. Pretty sure that elephant's got a long memory.

When your daily intake is 20K+ calories, it effectively doesn't matter. Not all calories are made the same, either.

My guess is they will make it to, at maximum, about 2-3% and then fold like little b****es. My guess is they will also not have the stones to go anywhere near the military, social security, and medicare/aid.

You may see that as some kind of victory, but I see it as theater at best and reckless stupidity at worst.

Again, I'm more than happy to have hard conversations about shrinking the size of the federal government, but what I see them doing at present is just amateur hour.

Thankfully there is still an adult in the room. Hopefully Rubio can save the the vast majority of USAID programs that do nothing but good deeds around the world. Again the right finds the worst cases and amplifies them to paint something in a bad light. And again Musk shows he believes the dumbest of twitter conspiracies.

USAID announces sweeping moves to sideline remaining staff
The move is the latest action in a jarring broadside against America’s foreign aid architecture that has followed President Donald Trump’s return to the White House.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2025/02/04/usaid-trump-foreign-aid/

    excerpt:

Rubio accepted no responsibility for the bottlenecks in funding.

“I issued a blanket waiver that said, if this is lifesaving programs … if it’s providing food or medicine or anything that is saving lives … you’re not included in the freeze,” Rubio told reporters in Costa Rica’s capital. “I don’t know how much more clear we can be than that.”

It is not clear how much of the suspended aid portfolio will be reinstated at the end of Trump’s 90-day review. Foreign aid accounts for 1 percent of the U.S. budget.

There are reasonable debates to have about what programs should be cut, or trimmed. But the idea that 2-3% of the federal budget (or even 2-3% of the deficit) is a meaningless number, is very wrong. That's a lot of taxpayer dollars. If they can save that much, that's not just theater. It's meaningful.

Like you said, bigger savings would require conversations about social security and the military, which are tentpoles that I don't think any politicians are willing to touch.

Bill Kristol was one of the leading neo-con propagandists that led us into the wars in the middle east. He's a moron.
Kind of the Steve Bannon of the GW Bush admin.

This post is a perfect example of why this is good in theory and not so great in practice.

$10,000,000 to Reuters for "social engineering"

You can already see the comments taking the rage bait. You yourself were more than happy to spread this mind virus, of course.

Meanwhile, it's likely a multi-year license for use of Reuters software library to combat social engineering attacks.

Is it a good use of funds? Who knows.

    Is this blatantly deceptive? 100%.
