Breggy took himself out of the picture. I told you guys him and Boras were using the Astros as leverage all along. Some of you tried to deny it. "Alex had a change of heart! This team wouldn't be trading Pressley if they weren't going to sign Bregman!". Yikes talk about gullible.
Honestly, I don’t blame the Astros on this or Bregman. IMO, it was a really great offer when you compare what Matt Chapman ended up getting. Snake can probably do all metrics to speak for itself. Boras believed Bregman would get some monster contract and sold him on this idea. Altuve did all he could do to try and make it work from his perspective. Pride is a hell of a thing, and I think Bregman’s pride has a lot to do with it. I also think Boras forgets other team’s perception of Bregman for 2017. I know Correa was offered large contracts, but at the time he was considered one of the best short stop if not the best at the time. Then all the medical records and injuries have taken a toll on him. Bregman isn’t at the level that Correa was. At the end of the day, I would have loved to see him retire as an Astro. It’s sad that Altuve might be the only one from the golden era to retire as an Astro for life. I haven’t given up hope on Yordan, but who knows what will happen to him.
One thing I would like to add… I will give Dana Brown props for being proactive this offseason, and him not sitting waiting for Bregman and Tucker. I personally think Bregman would make this team better, but long time there are concerns with him declining. I hope they add a few pieces still to this team as I’m not 100% sold on their pitching depth.
Non-Astros fans hate Bregman. They think he's arrogant because of his resting dick face. Then the cheating scandal came along, and that put a scarlet letter on him. Sports executives aren't all immune to this, either. Unless they're Mavericks execs, then they don't understand anything outside of their own bubble.
The Astros will sign Bregman. Just you wait. Bregman and Boras are waiting to see if Alonso and the Mets fail to work out a deal.
Well this tweet by Mr Kunkel is HORRIBLE journalism. Brown did not say "they're no longer talking to Bregman or Scott Boras". He specifically said, when asked if they had "talked to Boras recently" that "no...they have not talked to Boras recently". He didn't say they were done talking to Boras. Nor made any comment saying that they wouldn't speak to him again in the future. Just that right now any conversations about Bregman are internal. How this dude spun this into they're "done talking to Bregman or Boras" again is pathetic journalism. Learn to listen Will.
As far as I know the Astros have not pulled the offer for Bregman. They also have not ruled out making a new offer - only that at this time there is zero change in negotiations. Maybe I am reading the tea leaves but it sounded like the Astros are just waiting on Bregman to make a decision.
That's exactly how I interpreted it. Could they pull the offer at some point and halt any further dialog? Absolutely. Right now they're waiting to see what Bregman is going to do. I'm sure there's some frustration as to what's taking him so long to make a decision (which we're all feeling as well).
I can speak for any non-Astros baseball fan I’ve ever met who has a visceral dislike for Bregman. And there are a lot of them.
Edited my post for clarification. My boss, the company president, is a Yankees fan and one of those people. If I want to derail a conversation with him I just bring up the Astros. He goes from the nicest guy in the world to a frothing madman in a heartbeat. It’s funny.
