I'd assume all the 3 letter agencies are following this very closely...if not they have failed us.

Oh, they have absolutely failed us! This is like something out of Mission Impossible but a thousand times dumber.

Also, cancel all your legacy media subscriptions as they are all missing & getting beat on this & outlets like WIRED are killing it (while the banking system still works)

EMERGENCY PIECE: Previous reports that Musk's DOGE programmers only have "read only" access is inaccurate. I can confirm what @wired.com first reported at 1 AM today that they have Read & WRITE access with a source in BFS referring to this as "apocalyptic"

Yes but to comply with a Congressional act. Trump can adjust the structure, but he can not change the law around disbursement of the funds.

Also having unvetted or unaccountable actors accessing Americans' private financial data including social security numbers is certainly something that should concern a libertarian such as yourself, no?

    right

we have no idea what kind of access is being provided, nor do we know the purpose. Some 270 million social security numbers were released last fall as a result of a hacking incident; if the DOGE engineers are going in there with the intention of making social security information MORE secure rather than less, then I am all for it.

The point being is that basically everyone here (and virtually everywhere else) is speaking from a condition of ignorance. I suspect that adopting a wait-and-see perspective is probably the healthiest stance one can take.

Libertarian? Nah He's just a dope with a narrow band of expertise that is not remotely related to this area.

Also he is not allowed /too afraid to say any of this trash at work IRL so he does it here. For kicks.

Subsequently - USAID was authorized by Act of Congress & funded budgetarily every year since

So no, don't believe some random Internet dipshit lecturing you about stuff that happened before even he was born that he just read off Twitter yesterday - believe what you see, random drug addled billionaires cannot legally shutter government agencies or overturn Congress (as if anyone needs a law degree to know that.. lol!)

That's the problem, why not be transparent about what's occurring unless you have something to hide? Hold a press conference, introduce your team, and give us a play by play on what your goals are and answer questions from journalists.

The supreme court made the president a king. The king appointed Elon to wreck the government. If it's illegal, no one can do anything about it. Faithful government bureaucrats tried to stop them and got fired. Security tried to stop them and got fired. Trumps hand picked DOJ said they wouldn't do anything. The legislative branch needs to step up but MAGA controls both houses and are cheering him on.

Curtis Yarvin, the pied piper of silicon valley idiots, coined the phrase RAGE (retire all government employees) long before project 2025 . His ideas were rolled into project 2025. JD Vance's political career was entirely funded by Peter Thiel. Musk pour millions into the Trump campaign. Both these guys also make billions from government contracts. Try to keep up.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_Assistance_Act

The Foreign Assistance Act (Pub. L. 87–195, 75 Stat. 424-2, enacted September 4, 1961, 22 U.S.C. § 2151 et seq.) is a United States law governing foreign aid policy.[1] It outlined the political and ideological principles of U.S. foreign aid, significantly overhauled and reorganized the structure of U.S. foreign assistance programs, and legally distinguished military from nonmilitary aid. Following its enactment by Congress on September 4, 1961, President John F. Kennedy signed the Act into law on November 3, 1961, issuing Executive Order 10973 detailing the reorganization.[2]

musk is saying people who released the names of DOGE "employees" are committing a crime, but he has been posting the names of federal employees (people who actually work for the government) on twitter for years.

[WIRED] 25-Year-Old With Elon Musk Ties Has Direct Access to the Federal Payment System

The Bureau of the Fiscal Service is a sleepy part of the Treasury Department. It’s also where, sources say, a 25-year-old engineer tied to Elon Musk has admin privileges over the code that controls Social Security payments, tax returns, and more.

A 25-year-old engineer named Marko Elez, who previously worked for two Elon Musk companies, has direct access to Treasury Department systems responsible for nearly all payments made by the US government, tree sources tell WIRED.

Two of those sources say that Elez’s privileges include the ability not just to read but to write code on two of the most sensitive systems in the US government: The Payment Automation Manager (PAM) and Secure Payment System (SPS) at the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS). Housed on a top-secret mainframe, these systems control, on a granular level, government payments that in their totality amount to more than a fifth of the US economy.

I think talk of Trump succeasfuly becoming a dictator isn't the negative idea for the people you are talking too. Maybe talking about where that would eventually lead might be more productive.

USAID is a blip compared to what these guys are doing and their ultimate goal. What they've done with USAID can now be done to any agency with the flip of a switch. An un-elected team directed by a drug addled oligarch literally controls the finances of the US Government. This is a nightmare scenario. We will be lucky if the does not end very badly.

It's fine they're just trying to make the house more secure. Let's wait and see. That Elon Musk is taking over the Treasury payment system to make it more secure might be the biggest dip-**** moron post in the history of this BBS.
