Sometimes GMs talk about possbilities and don't end up in deals. But Rafael needs to build more GM relationships.
Add the future Rockets own selection and take out Jalen so that they will make the deal. If rationed correctly, Coby could play 28 minutes backing up FVV and Green. We need firepower.
Tre Jones going to Bulls in the Fox-Lavine trade means Chicago now has 5 PGs in Coby White, Lonzo, Giddey, Carter and Tre. We lack a true backup to FVV. Offense gets chaotic when he is out. Holiday is always looking for his shot first and this gets worse when Holiday and Cam share the court together. Assuming the Bulls want to keep White and Giddey, one of Tre and Carter should be available at a low cost. Tre is the better playmaker and his contract is expiring. Carter is the better shooter and defender, but has another year at $7m. Would happily trade Jeff or Landale (plus a couple of SRPs if needed) for one of Tre/Carter.
Any way to pry Lively or Gafford from the Mavs now that Davis is there? Tate + Jock + Protected 1st for Lively.
I don’t remember if it was a direct quote from Stone, but it was implied that any move we make would be moving a player into the $9M in space that we have under the tax and receive picks along with the player. Chicago is under the tax, so there is no real incentive for them to send picks out to move players. Sacramento is about $2m over the LT, so you could see them attaching a second round pick to someone like Doug McDermott to get them under.
I want Cam Johnson if price reasonable, but I doubt Rockets add someone that good. I expect at a minimum the Rockets trade an expiring and generate a TPE and possibly get a 2nd rd pick like you mention. I could see something small like getting Time Lord as another center option (could go for a backup PG as well) that would be an expiring next year.
Zach Collins is obviously going to get moved from the Bulls for picks. Rockets absolutely need to jump on that (or previously mentioned Lively/Gafford).
I think at this point the rockets just play it out and maybe get a cheap shooter at the deadline. My eyes are on phoenix. If they crash and burn in the playoffs I think they got for a rebuild and our priority should be Devin Booker unless Edwards in Minnesota somehow becomes available
He would be an okay fit, but I still really think we need a backup guard first and foremost. Coby White and Collin Sexton are both apparently available for the right price. If the cost is too high, maybe a smaller upgrade.
Jalen, I doubt we do anything other than take on salary for a 2nd round pick or two. If we lose the next two games and with Minnesota looming it might spur us on to trying to get a couple of shooters. We could easily be on a six game losing streak. This team is tired and injured. The all-star break can't get here fast enough.
Rockets should explore getting that 2031 wolves pick from the kings. Maybe something like tari or tari and cam? Would help with setting up a future edwards trade.
I get that FVV being out could hurt against good teams, but no way Amen doesn't play better against the Nets. As such, it will not be easy for the Rockets to be on a six-game losing streak.
If Sengun is back they will probably beat the Nets, regardless of FVV's status. If Sengun doesn't play against NY, we are going to get slaughtered. If he doesn't play against the Nets, we may very well get beat again. Adams gets some blocks and rebounds, but freaking Claxton ate his lunch and we lost the rebound battle. I think Amen is our best player, but he isn't aggresive enough with the ball yet. It's a confidence thing, not an inability to be an offensive force. That lack of confidence to take over in the half court is what is keeping him from being superstar already, not his 3 pt shooting.
Chicago is rebuilding...hope the Rockets can snatch Torrey Craig before other playoff bound teams can get him.
The Nets don't have anyone close to Amen's ability. Even if both Sengun and FVV are out, the Rockets should win easily as long as Amen doesn't have a repeat. The Rockets lost the rebound battle for one simple reason: The Rockets missed more shots. I don't expect Amen to be that bad again. I don't expect Cam to be as bad again either.
Um, didn't the Nets just hand the uninspired, oh-it's-just-the-Nets Rockets teams its ass a couple days ago? Used our team like a c*m-cloth?
Yes. They embarrassed the Rockets players. I think the Rockets players are going to take it personally.
I don't think people are really understanding this from the Mavs front office's perspective--it's a stupid perspective, but they think they're going to win a championship with this squad in the next few years. They don't think of themselves as sellers. Gafford, sure, already reports he's available, but I don't think they're trying to trade Lively. They're going to let AD play power forward and do the two bigs thing when Lively gets back.
