I mean, it doesn't look any deeper than a very cold, shrewd financial move that benefits the league and Mavs/LA ownership. LA is the biggest NBA market and the flagship moneymaker. When LeBron retires and Curry fully fades there aren't any major California teams competing in the NBA. That's billions of dollars lost, not just in LA but for the entire league. This keeps the flagship going so Dallas took one for the team. Also, Luka is getting 70 million a season supermax, and if they hit the second apron or luxury tax, not a cap specialist so someone correct me if I'm wrong here. But if he becomes essentially a 70-90+ million dollar per year player effectively with the luxury tax, is he really worth it missing games, being out of shape at times, and his weaknesses defensively? Does he generate that much revenue for Dallas? Can the Mavs still turn a nice profit with AD? These new casino owners may not have loyalty to the Dallas brand or tradition or whatever like Cuban, so they just saved and earned millions on their investment. Not saying I agree with it, but I can see why perhaps they did it. It's a cold world and this is a business, gotta keep the train moving But if I were a Mavs fan I would boycott as well, really got shafted of a generational player and finals run. As a Rockets fan, wish we could have been involved but we might actually have a Dallas team that falls off sooner and a weaker defensively LA team, we'll see.
The D(EI) & D forum is waiting for your DEI takes. You'll be welcomed with a red carpet. Otherwise, keep political crap out of the Dish for everyone else who just enjoys basketball. Thanks man, seriously! Anyway, I agree with you on: ownership didn't want to pay for fat, no-defense Luka, and then mismanagement led to no shopping and only one pick (still hard to believe). Separate from your political/racial bit, I would say: god knows there are more incompetent managers in this country than we could ever possibly comprehend. I've seen dozens and meet new ones every day. I would share what I think of political management too, but I'll do that in the D(EI)&D if I ever return there. Mainly, I'm glad the Rockets are doing better, a lot better, than the Mavs right about now. It's delicious to watch the Mavs ship out a top five talent.
Blaming DEI is just the natural response from the maga idiots anytime an employee who isn't a white male screws up or does something stupid.
It's not criminally underrating him, it's just mind blowing that the mavs would not let any other team know or did the due diligence to get the best trade avaliable. Apparently the dumb@$$ gm didn't want to start a trade war bc luka will have demanded to b traded if he found out. Looked like he took a sht trade preemptively to avoid the fallout of luka lowering his value. Thank God our gm isn't this stupid
Maybe the Mavs don’t want to deal with Luka always out of shape and injury prone. They don’t want a Zion.
“20 hours ago - The Mavericks are trading Doncic (calf) to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis (abdomen) in a three-team trade involving the Jazz, Shams Charania of ESPN reports“ Laughed at this
If we don't get news that Luka is actually out for the season with an Achilles or something within the next few days, it was collusion
Zion has never been All-NBA. Luka has been All-NBA First Team, 5 seasons straight. Zion has never made the NBA Playoffs. Luka was the best player on a team that played in the NBA Finals, just last season. They are not the same.
Burnsen to NY for nothing KP to Boston for garbage Luka to LA for leftovers yeah… this GM is definitely in collusion to setup major market teams in the NBA. kyrie is next, he’s gonna start acting out, get bought out, then sign with daddy in LA
Harden has the same issues in houston when he was Lukas age in 2016. The rockets would have NEVER considered trading harden at the time even when he allegedly got Michale fired. The legendary, "trade James harden" thread we had hear was just to troll the harden stans. The Mavs went ahead and actually pulled the trigger and did it smh
Even Yahoo Fantasy Basketball has a 2 day waiting period for trades so team managers can vote against stupid and/or lopsided trades. Next CBA this has to be implemented in the NBA. Just 1 first? Are you telling me Pelinka would have hung up the phone if they asked for 2 firsts? Unbelievable.
