They own their own pick this season and were only the 8 seed BEFORE they dumped their franchise player for nothing. They'll end up in the lottery and miraculously win.
https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/m...ncic-trade-lakers-anthony-davis-max-christie/ “I understand why they would be shocked, initially,” Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison told The News. “But I do believe that we positioned ourselves to win now and also win in the future. “And that’s ultimately the goal and why we’re here. It’s one of those things where it’s my job to make the tough decisions that put our goals first and foremost.” How, when and why did this megadeal come to fruition? Harrison cited his two-decade relationship with Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka, starting when Harrison was a Nike executive and Pelinka was a player agent. Harrison told The News that he and Pelinka began having “basketball” conversations more than a month ago. “Then all of a sudden we’re like, ‘Would you ever do this?’ ‘Nah, you’re joking, right?’ ‘Hmm. Interesting. Maybe I would.’ Added Harrison: “And then it just built over time over the last three weeks.” A person familiar with the Mavericks’ thinking told The News that Harrison got full support from team governor Patrick Dumont in the weeks leading to the trade and when it was time to pull the trigger late Saturday night. “We really feel like we got ahead of what was going to be a tumultuous summer, him being eligible for the supermax and also a year away from him being able to opt out of any contract,” Harrison said. “And so we really felt like we got out in front of that. We know teams, they’ve had it out there, teams have been loading up to try to sign him once that comes available.” “We really feel that defense wins championships, and we think the players that we’re bringing in add to the culture, which is important to what J-Kidd and I have been building here from day one,” Harrison said. “And then obviously, when you get an all NBA player who’s also a first team All-Defensive player, we think that’s gonna help us where we need it the most, on the defensive end.” “I think if you look at the Cleveland Cavaliers, that’s what you’re going to see,” said Harrison, a reference to Cleveland’s imposing frontcourt of Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. “Anthony’s probably going to finish games at the five, but you’re going to see those guys play together. And when Lakers won, he played the four.” Harrison said that as of early Sunday morning, he had not communicated directly with Doncic, but, rather Doncic’s agent Bill Duffy. Harrison said he did text and leave a phone message for Doncic. “My guess is he probably doesn’t want to talk to me,” Harrison said.
Why not just start with Kyrie + Washington or Lively....for AD. LBJ might even listen bc he loves Irving.
Both. 2029 first round draft pick from Dallas and / or Phoenix (two most favorable of these and Houston, Houston outgoing to Brooklyn) Houston will receive the two most favorable of its 2029 1st round pick, Dallas' 2029 1st round pick and Phoenix's 2029 1st round pick and Brooklyn will receive the least favorable of the three
Major disaster has always resulted in a trophy in the past few decades that i recall for the city that was devastated including our own Astros, so you're probably right, but damn that Lakers squad is so bad defensively it will take an insane amount of ref collusion to get it done. I can't bet against the Lakers refs, though. I wonder how they decide which sport gets to be the one to win after a tragedy. Like why the Lakers in their current state vs the Rams? Rams triumph and stopping a Chiefs 3 peat is the way bigger story. I guess Mahomes and Chiefs script too powerful to rewrite. They currently are the Lakers of the NFL. Looking more in depth, the Lakers winning is actually the way bigger story to sell and won't get in the way of anything else that hurts their future brand. No one cares if the Thunder, Grizz or Cavs or even start up Rockets win. That doesn't sell. Boston vs Lakers sells. I can see it now. All the celebs who lost their homes with front row seats. Yeah. This is happening.
Texans pay more on average in taxes than Californians, the entire no state income tax is a red herring. DD
I think the NFL is too afraid to go against Taylor Swift. Also, with the Lakers storyline, you can go with the "FIRST TEAM WITH FATHER AND SON TO WIN!!!!" and throw some token Bronny minutes in the playoffs to be constantly talked about. It makes too much sense when you start with the presupposition that the league is half a step away from WWE in terms of legitimacy.
The Mavs current team would be amazing if it was 8 years ago IF Anthony Davis happened to stay healthy, which he never is. Current date, I look at it as a lottery team.
A funny tweet I saw is Jerry Jones isn’t the dumbest GM in Dallas lol Even if Luka is an unmotivated fat ass you can’t trade the face of your franchise in his prime and if you do you better get a return that makes your team better now and in the future. I don’t see the Mavs’ perspective. This makes the Mavs worse.
Media heads keep trying to spin for the Mavs to justify this poo-poo platter. “He’s fat and because he’s fat and gonna continue to stay fat, we didn’t want to pay him so we traded him.” Fine, whatever. OPEN UP THE BIDDING.
I thought this was fake yesterday and I woke up and it was legit… I had to hop on clutchfans to triple check. I thought this was going to be one of those deals not possible for “basketball reasons”. Luka is a young franchise star, I still dont understand why the Mavs would take that. Mostly why for AD. AD is always hurt and much older. AD might be better with Kyrie but still mind blown.
Luka with the WCF mvp trophy in one hand, and Michael Finley (asst GM) takes his beer out of the other. Dirk never would have done that, lulz
Jesus christ, talk about being out of touch and sounding like a maniac. Hope the media bombards him with how did you not end up with 5-10 picks, Reaves etc. Guess the cheapskates did not want to commit to more money.
