Talking with my friends in Dallas and hopped over to the Mavs forum. Most are thinking this is a move to try to move the franchise to Vegas. It’s the only thing they can see that would make sense of this. If true as much as I hate the mavs I feel bad for all nba fans and hate the lakers even more. This is a blow to the credibility of the league as a whole.

Someone will bring up the Dodgers, but they had to give Sohei the biggest contract in MLB history by a wide margin to get him over. The Lakers will likely keep Luka at a steep discount over other star players.

What do the Adelsons have to gain out of this? Are they looking to move the team? Will Nike give them 5 billion dollars in real estate? Are they just big Laker fans?

 

I hate all things Dallas. Was just there a few weeks ago thinking that city sucks, but it's still a major city. Why is Vegas getting all this attention? It feels wrong to have a team in Vegas, Sacramento, OKC, Indiana, Orlando, Milwaukee...cities like that, but not in Dallas, or Seattle? Hell, at this point i was thinking Austin might need their own NBA team now for 4 in Texas, but why keep getting rid of the major cities for small markets?

They want the Lakers to win it all this year due to the LA fires so they forced this deal, probably by promising the Mavs a #1 overall pick.

I'd like Wemby out of SA as well, but if he got traded to the Lakers for 40 year old LeBron, Austin Reeves, and a 1st, that would be worse than the reward of SA being bad again.

 

Could be wrong, but I think the timing of his online casino rights really turned things around, then that combined with the post-pandemic bounce. What is he worth nowadays, in the $10B to $15B range? When he bought the team I think he was in the $3B to $5B range and clearly remembered him crying poor in several interviews, saying he was not able to spend like other owners, before he went PR crazy with a lot of smoke. Anyhow, an extra $5B to $10B makes a big difference.
