After we shot right up to the top of the west relying mostly on young hustle on defense, did the Mavs see their future differently? I'm not necessarily referring to the excuse the Mavs GM made about defense winning championships... OKC and Houston showed how easy it is to rebuild and look like they could have a chokehold on the west with all the future draft assets. That being said, the play would be to go for draft picks, not AD who gets hurt all the time. Kyrie and AD may mesh well and win games, but not enough to be a top 5 team. I feel like they saw a lack of future and decided to do Luka a solid and take best offer from somewhere he wanted to go. Given the salary of Luka, it would take a star to match salaries. Dealing 3 or 4 rotation pieces to match contracts is difficult to do for contending teams. Would not be surprised if both Kyrie and AD are flipped for picks in the offseason....
No because they can't rebuild. They don't own most of their picks. They're not a better team now, Davis doesn't have fewer availability issues even if he were as good. They're basically what the Lakers were. More likely we made the Lakers realize they're going nowhere in the West and have to pull some corrupt sh*t to become relevant again.
There might be a disconnect between the Mavs and Luka's reps and team. They want to control his fitness regimen during non playing months.
NBA made this move. No way LeBron didn’t know either. Bridges fetched 5 1st rounders and a 25 year old Luka gets you 1 and a 31 year old often injured Anthony Davis? GTFOH!
There's two issues. One - wanting to trade Luke in general. Second - trading Luka behind closed doors specifically to get AD instead of having an open market. First issue... you might be able to debate but still fireable. Second issue... you are a ****ing idiot.
It's fascinating how various GMs and owners think. The Mavs are 26-23. Their 20-year-old first-round pick center (Lively) goes down with an injury on 1-22. Now they trade for AD and cluster him with their vets in a win-now mode because defense wins championships. Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson have never been known for their D. They'll look a little better with Davis behind them, but is this group going to beat OKC or the Clippers? They certainly match up better with the Rockets now. And as for Rafael...it's stone silence on the trade front: success, injuries, losses, it doesn't matter. He's staying the course.
lol this is just wishful thinking. Mavs new ownership are straight up incompetent, we've seen this plenty of times in the past. In 3 years AD, Kyrie and Klay (earlier) will all be washed and Mavs will need to rebuild. Guess who owns their picks in that time? OKC, Rockets and Spurs. Also, we don't need to worry about any team getting better in the west other than OKC and Spurs since they won't be on our timeline.
I agree there is some corrupt sh*t going on, but Dallas does own their own 25 and 26 picks. The corrupt sh*t could very well be a promise for the top pick this year or next. It would take an injury to Davis though. AD and Flagg and a pick is a much more reasonable trade. Flagg is a fit Doncic that plays defense. I would trade all the Phoenix picks, Jabari, Cam, Reed and maybe a couple of our own picks for Flagg even before he plays a single NBA game. I wouldn't have done that for Doncic. If AD stays healthy Dallas can challenge this year. Long term without some help from the league they really got screwed.
It has nothing to do with the Rockets. Mavs just doesn't want to offer Luca the max contract in the summer after evaluating his health (injury and weight control problem), defense issues, and who knows whatelse. I am just shocked about how little they get in return. Btw, if Cuban is still the boss, I don't think he will authorize this deal.
Luka has a good shot at being in the hall of fame if he retired today. Flagg is playing college ball. How can you imply what you are trying to imply?
Yeah but Dallas can't tank right now they have Klay, Kyrie and AD in and out of games. So they don't have their picks for 3 years in a row after that or something. It's so stupid. I feel so bad for Mavs fans. This would be like discovering mid 2019-2020 season that Harden got traded for a better Rudy Gobert and a FRP. Just unbelievable.
Maybe their plan, as stupid as it sounds, is to try and win this year and trade both Irving and Davis in the off-season for a full tank job. Doncic being hurt for most of the rest of the year, might be a reason to do this. Still incredibly stupid, but I can't believe that there isn't more to this than "I want AD". Dallas now have their 25 and 26 frp, the Lakers 29 pick, Worse of SA, Dal 30 pick and their own 31. Of course they could have gotten 5 or more frp's and a good player or two for Doncic. The only semi-logical reasons to make this trade is that they believe AD and Irving can get them a championship this year or some form of corruption by the league.
