thinking about it. the mavs could see teams like OKC and Houston being good long term and trying to win now while they can. Just trying to think of any reason to make this trade.
When you say they have to know something, it would have to be something that runs him out of the league something. Otherwise this makes zero sense. Beyond belief documentary one day about the back story kind of stuff.
The only way this sort of makes sense is if the Mavs caught Doncic binge-eating out of his secret box of candy in the arena basement (like Johnny Sack's wife in The Sopranos). Even then, you would have a bidding war.
So OKC has a 2028 pick swap with DAL and the Rockets have a 2029 pick swap with DAL as well. Has the DAL GM (and owners) been drug tested?

Many have heard me say it before, the NBA is rigged. They continue to try to get LeBron rings to catch up to MJ. League gave him Rui, D Russell, and Mo Bamba for a pack of chewing gum. Now Doncic without losing Reaves. Now watch Dallas get rewarded with a top 4 draft pick.....maybe even Cooper Flagg himself. NBA so desperate for ratings as well. This is a pass the baton from LeBron to Doncic move in one of the biggest markets. High ranking revenue teams. Still with a first to make another move.
This just seems like a weird nightmare that defies all logic. Still waiting to wake up. The Mavericks were admittedly tired of Luka's poor conditioning. They resented Luka prioritizing Slovenian basketball over NBA basketball. They decided to trade him. I understand this part. However, I don't understand why they would then trade him to his preferred destination for a fraction of his value. The Thunder, Rockets and Spurs could have all offered a far better return. Teams accumulate assets in the hope that they can make a reasonable offer for a player like Luka Doncic some day.. The Mavericks don't control their own first-round pick from 2027 to 2030. Tanking is not an option during those four seasons when Davis and Kyrie will clearly be on the decline. The Spurs could have given them their 2030 1st back plus Stephen Castle, Devin Vassell and 6 first-round picks. The Mavericks didn't even acquire all the draft equity the Lakers held. This is the most unbalanced trade I recall in my entire life of following professional sports. I am sickened by the unfairness of it. Mavericks fans will likely just give up on the NBA. We now can look forward to the league giving the Lakers 54 free throw attempts in every playoff game so the Lakers can play in the 2025 NBA Finals. This is the worst thing I can recall in the modern NBA. Just gross.
The Mavericks are too talented this season to end up in the lottery. Kyrie and AD will still have them winning 45-48 games and likely finishing somewhere between 5th and 8th. Nico Harrison has clearly discovered methamphetamine and is being blackmailed by an underage prostitute who happens to love the Lakers. I see no other reasonable explanation.
