Nah they arent even in the lottery. AD is able to play and with him Kyrie they make the playoffs for sure.

The new owners are just cheap and dont want to pay for Luka' salary but still want to be competitive to make money. AD is perfect for that.

 

I'm still super confused by this.

It would only possibly make sense if something really crazy was going on with Luka that nobody knew, like he has a secret severe injury or shagged the owner's daughter or something weird.

But even then, why would they not try to get better offers from the other teams?

This makes the Lakers a lot worse this year though. They just lost the only player on that roster that plays defense. This is for the post-Lebron era not now. The roster construction is a total mess now.

 

This needs to be investigated. The league can't allow two teams (apparently the lakers GM and mavs GM are buddies) to do this, it disrupts the competitive balance. If Luka was on the market, it's only fair to allow for an actual bidding war. We could have offered a big time package.

Imagine if the Bucks owner traded Giannis for Bronny James because he doesn't care anymore and is friends with the Lakers owner. This trade would be vetoed.

 

I don't get it too, lmao. I'd probably understand it if the Mavs just started from a blank slate by next year or two even, and perhaps traded Luka for a boatload of picks. But to trade Luka upfront for AD? There must be truly something hidden from us.
