I am, but that's not the point. In case you weren't aware, Shopify is the second largest Canadian company by market cap (behind Royal Bank of Canada), and is Canada's largest tech company (by far). (Tobi is German (we have mutual friends), but also a Canadian citizen at this point.) What is going on very much affects their business, and their independent merchants (Shopify is an enabler for many small businesses which are engaged in cross-border transactions between Canada and the US).
I am very very far from a billionaire (I will never be one). My liquid assets are limited. I have had a lot of illiquid paper wealth for a while. But yeah, in the last few years, I would have been in the top 1 % earners in the US.
What I find disturbing about alot of MAGA folx Is how much they love and trust Putin Someone their beloved Reagan would nullify At this point they might as well be Russian Russian spies. Russian bots... Rocket River
British Columbia, Canada’s third largest province, said it will stop buying liquor made in Republican states. The government of Ontario, Canada’s largest province, has indicated it is considering doing the same.
In the spirit of fairness Watch Trump say if they don't buy from red Then he prohibits them from buying from blue Rocket River
Well I mean no offense to you, but these economic conditions are not going to hit you like it will me or a vast majority of Americans.
BTC is going to crash too. It is already down 5%. It has pretty decent correlation to nasdaq and S&P over the the last few months.
One of Goldman Sachs' leading economists gave a presentation to me and a group of leaders recently. He made a great point: When the USA announces tariffs on other countries, the US Dollar tends to strengthen. This effect can completely wipe out the impact tariffs have on consumer prices in the USA. This board is not factoring this into their pricing equations...With a stronger dollar, we can buy more foreign goods for the same amount of dollars -- and overcome the higher cost due to tariffs. Trump wins again.
I mean, at the most basic level, in a pissing contest like this, the stronger side wins and the weaker side eventually caves. Add to that that Trudeau is a lame duck who will be replaced by Poilièvre soon, who will immediately seek to strike a deal with Trump. Canada is not going to win this. Trudeau will be forced out in shame. His reaction is purely ego-based, not on what is best for Canada.
Mad King Trump is imposing these tariffs on Canada (our largest trade partner & leading supplier of oil , timber etc) because of "fentanyl" I read today that US Customs have seized.....48 pounds of Fentanyl crossing the border from Canada last year That's like $10 billion worth of economic losses per lb. Just insane
What in the hell are you talking about. US citizens would only benefit from a strong dollar if they travel overseas and exchange the money in the local currency where they could buy more. The average consumer is going to be devastated from these tariffs as it means paying more for goods that we have no way of manufacturing here. We can not replace Canadian oil with our oil. Its insane how you cultists are trying to gas light people into claiming higher prices means good. We're not dumb like yall
Dude this doesn't even make sense. Do you think the dollar is going to increase by 25%? In that case it makes our exports worse because all our exports are going be way more expensive.
Trudeau has been trying to make a deal but Trump hasn't returned the calls. The IDIOT in chief even said there's nothing Canada can do to stop the tariffs. Which begs the question, what's the point?
How so? My read of the situation is that this will unfortunately be more detrimental to the low income individual in Canada than to the low income person in the US. I would agree with you that at certain levels of wealth, it doesn't make much of a difference to the day-to-day life of people. That's just my opinion, how does that make me selfish?
You're selfish because you literally just said you're OK with people in Canada being hurt more than people in the US
