I'm pretty sure coming off the bench on a team with KD and Booker is still better than being in Sacramento lol

These goofy trade proposals from the media are always the quickest to throw in all of your young talent and picks and not even account for the consideration of teams. I don't think the Spurs are trading Castle so easily.

Who knows if SA even wants Fox. Probably most of the rumours are from Fox's agent. If SA thinks Fox is a max player maybe even super max if he makes an all nba team, then they wouldn't hesitate to give up Castle that plays the same position. I think the real hold-up is the draft compensation if SA is really interested in Fox. If they get Fox they should be willing to trade their own 2025 pick, but not the Atlanta pick. I truly believe they don't want Fox this year. This draft is just too stacked to give up potential lottery picks for a 28 year old player that has made one all-star appearance.

The trade market for Fox is limited because of his well-known 2026 contract demands.

Spurs are in total control of this because the Kings will give them a final chance to exceed any other offer. Plus, regardless of what the Spurs refuse to give up, they can still beat any offer the Kings would get elsewhere.

It's in the Spurs interest to play hardball since they appear to have leverage because the Kings definitely want this done by Thursday.

If they get Fox it hurts their chance in the lottery. If they wait they can tank have potentially 2 lottery picks in a loaded draft. People are saying they screwed up not keeping the 8th pick last year, but that is hind-sight. Almost all of the lottery teams other than ATL and Washington were trying to trade out of that draft, including the Rockets. It was a really bad draft.

I believe the Spurs are trying to reach the play-in and never had any intention of tanking this year. The lottery odds differences of finishing 7-11 are minimal.

If the Kings accept what the Spurs are willing to offer (which is near-certain IMO), a deal will be done by Thursday. If there actually is another team with a strong offer of picks and players to match the Spurs, Fox will go elsewhere. He won't finish the season in Sacramento because Rich Paul pulled the rug out from under the Kings.

I think I’d be okay losing Reed, FVV and one pick. That ain’t happening, but I’d be intrigued with our potential this year with Fox. Likely we won’t bring FVV back next year anyways, right?

edit: didn’t think about Fox’s future contract situation. In that case maybe keeping Reed is better.

Why do you think it’s likely we don’t bring back the team leader in minutes played?

I mean his contract was kind of set up so that we could shed him once the young guys go their wings under them.
Owed $44 million and taking touches away and PT away from Amen, Green, and Reed.
Currently we have a $188m salary roster next season.

I dont think we need Fox. Like the player but don’t want to give up assets and occupy cap space like that. Amen/Reed/Jalen/Sengun are enough ball handling and creating. Speculative of course but Im also thinking we will have FVV for 2-3 more seasons.

Unfortunately, I think we have FVV back at least another year. I personally think it is idiotic unless he is a 20m backup. I just don't see him taking that big of a paycut and being ok with a backup role. He is fine as a steady hand coming off the bench, but his penchant for trying to be the closer over and over tells me his ego is still not in line with a bench role.

Let's be honest here. If Sengun is on the bench or otherwise out, all another team has to do is get back in transition then blitz Jalen to get the ball out of his hands or force him to take a stupid shot. No one else on this team can break down a half-court defense. Maybe Fox wouldn't be the exact right fit, but if not him then who?

Hopefully the price is steep but either way, massive bullet dodged.
