That's pretty overrated in most cases. Michigan for instance has a 4.25% state income tax, 4.25% of 20 million is 850,000. Mass is 5% so a million, still way ahead in take home pay. Plus sometimes I figure it probably comes down to ego as much as the number of actual dollars they put in their pocket. When they want to get to a certain number, not getting to that number can be looked at as a failure. Not all professional athletes care about stuff like that, but some do
True again, but Houston plays most of their games against Texas and Seattle (no state income tax) vs Detroit. So that needs to be factored in as well.
I kind of think the contrary. He knows he has a safety net. He has time to try to get a better offer. If it gets to the point any offer isn't significantly better given all the ties He has to Houston. Neighborhood, commercials. His existing Bregman Cares charity. Familiarity with the area For me those are hooks in him that would make him need a sizeable upgrade from another team. Best scenario for the Stros is he decides in July to return, when his bat comes out of Hibernian
I know what you are talking about. You are a righteous prick who can't stand to take criticism in any form. Get your own politically shitty opinions out of this forum.
You’re right on time you stillborn mouth breathing moron. What are you hoping to accomplish with this comment? Care to enlighten me with a fact based analysis of Detroit’s state of being prior to 1996?
Oh look, next in the parade of club footed r****ds who can’t help themselves! What are you hoping to accomplish engaging on this topic? Further derail the baseball discussion by throwing your weight behind the “Detroit is a shithole that Alex Bregman would never go to” crowd? ****ing brilliant!!!
Yes And according to fangraphs he was the 2nd most valuable hitting 2b And 100th most valuable ( out of 105) defensive 2b.
I have no doubt Alex is still considering Houston I have no idea how often Dana Brown, or media heads or whoever else talks to Alex But I do have a pretty good idea that one of his better friends, Altuve, talks to him If Alex had already moved on, Altuve wouldn't be offering to go to LF. That whole thing came up because he was asked about it at Astro Fest and Jose said he would move out there to bring him back. I don't think it's likely Alex stays, but I don't think he has already decided to move on either
How is Altuve so low in dwar? He was in the top 3 in fielding % for 2B at .989. He was top 5 in double plays turned. He only committed 5 errors. He still has a quick first step and good speed. He is great on popups to shallow RF and behind 1B. I'm not seeing this terrible defense. On the contrary, he still plays a good second base. I'm skeptical of dwar. Seems his was lowered due to total chances, put outs and assists per inning, which inversely correlates to K/9 for Astros pitchers and other variables.
Not my money but I would bump the offer up slightly and see if Bregman bites. Increasing Bregmans offer now is better than overpaying with prospects to plug in holes. No guarantee a trade could be made either so the Astros would be set with their current makeup assuming no more moves
He still has a good glove. His lateral range has declined significantly so he doesn’t get to the same number of balls he did before, hence the same number of errors with diminished defensive value. His arm has also gone way downhill (he even had the yips for a hot minute). What he can get to, he fields well. But there’s a lot he can’t get to and the grounders he does get to are often followed by very weak throws. I think he is fine there because his weaknesses are pretty low impact. But he’s not a good defensive 2B.
I think Bregman is taking his time mulling the offers knowing the Astros original offer is still there. And the Astros are waiting for Bregs to come back to them with an offer from another team, and think they don't need to bump up there original one until that happens. Bregs "I have 6/166 offer from Toronto" Crane "We can match, welcome back" or Bregs "I have 6/180 offer from Detroit" Crane "We wish you luck"
I’m with you on this one. I thought he did well, nothing flashy but solid defense. I guess they must have metrics for which balls the elite 2nd basemen can coral. Similar to Peña fielding balls that are outside the range of the average SS.
If Altuve makes a play that an average defensive 2nd baseman makes, we probably escape ALDS game 2 against the Tigers with a tied series. Instead the ball he should've fielded gets past him...the Tigers score with 2 outs and the inning continues to avalanche and we lose the lead and series for good.
I'd like to amend my previous statement. Bregman is approaching incel territory. Obviously, he's going to sign somewhere but this is getting ridiculous.
There's a fine line between zealously advocating for your client and being a jackhole. Boras is on the wrong side of it right now.
Altuve makes that play 9 out of 10 times. It was an in-between dive and the ball went under his glove. Was that even counted as an error? Average second basemen usually have balls go between their legs, off their chest and throw the ball into the dugout on a dp turn more than 5 times a season. For that one bad play, there are plenty of these. Maybe they don't win it all in '22 without him making these two plays.
