We live in a fascinating time M! A time where people can just invent their own fantastic realities - from politics to pick and rolls. Last night Jalen had 2 turnovers so did 3 other guys on the team, but somehow its him that will screw things up they start barking "OMG he's a turnover machine" and then you show them how he's actually not and its like talking to a brick wall. You can see how the Jater carries his baggage. They crank down to big games from one of our other guys and then downplay the significance of a Jalen big game because of "iNcOnSiStEnCy" yet that doesnt apply anywhere else on the roster. They watch history unfold in front of their eyes and look down at their boxscores. They scream "he needs to do it every night" and then offer a lullaby for someone else on the team who cant "do it every night". Its hard to be a superstar in the NBA every single game. Its even harder to convince a reality denier that up is not down. On topic - Jalen should have gotten the last shot by design last night. He was the only guy filling it up. We just watched Memphis go to their 'star' in JJJ. We didnt need a 3 and there was plenty of time on the clock. Jalen should have been given the chance to cook the defense instead of a clumsy exchange from Amen to Freddy that didnt offer the best look. Hope Ime learns!
The dude in the right mentioned something I have pointed out before. Grizzles had a defender the entire game face guarding Green off ball, mostly Wells. They made a active decision to deny Green the ball at all costs and it frustrated him by taking a couple of bad shots out of frustration when he finally was able to get the ball. But you saw how every full court in bounds play he was always pressed and denied entry and it frustrated him. I see other teams do this to Jalen to in terms of trying to prevent Green from getting the ball.
This is the standard way teams have started to try and defend him - picking him up full court. J is going to have to start watching Reggie Miller film and learn how to use some angles coming off of picks better and also how to be a little more patient waiting for his screener he hung Dillon out to dry last night rushing. If Jalen is cooking you will see two guys rush him when he has the ball past midcourt even after being pressed. Defenses know there is nothing that can wreck you faster than allowing a 3 level scoring machine to get hot. Even then Jalen is often able to slip by or crack the double with pure speed. Its lead to more open shots for the other guys now that Jalen is looking to kick once he's committed the rim protector and help defense to his attempt. Big reason why I thought last night would have been a perfect time to put these "theories" to the test.
I see it, YOU see it, makes you wonder, how do others view the game? Is it through BIAS EYES? Jalen was the ONLY player they face guarded all night. However, he has to learn to be patient and pick his spots. The offense was working perfectly with him bringing the ball up the court! They couldn't stop us. Then Tari wanted to bring the ball up court, then Brooks wanted to take over, then FVV....THEN WE LOST!
https://www.nba.com/stats/players/clutch-traditional?TeamID=1610612745&dir=A&sort=PTS Tied with Alperen. JG poor efficiency again no surprise.
That's so crazy, I was tracking the game on NBA.com. Jalen Green was the only + (of +/-) with the starters for most of the game. When Amen and Dillon finally caught up and broke even in the fourth quarter....Jalen was +17 Jalen ended up +10
Not in FT% Check again..... Sengun is our designated near rim clutch guy. Rockets don't ask Sengun to take clutch 3's which are low percentage shots. FG% tends to be higher near the rim. Amen same thing. Jalen is our, need a 3 guy.......higher 3P% than VanVleet in the clutch
Math is hard. Do you know why people use efg% and ts% and not fg%? Half of Green's clutch shot diet are threes. Almost none of Alpi's shot diet is from threes on the clutch. Do that fg% difference is much closer when you weight 3 pters. You can even see it with them both averaging 2.2 ppg in clutch situations with the same amount of fga at 1.8
Also you can't compare raw fg% between a player that has half their shot diet from three in these situations and the other player has hardly any threes in those situations.
Is this guy the equivalent of what @Os Trigonum calls a Sengunatic? Now comes the plot twist though: Spoiler
Really didn’t like having Fred handle the ball at the end of the game last night. Should’ve been Jalen’s or at least Amen’s. Fred took bad shots, didn’t let anything develop.
Some of these posts after this game were wild lol. Jalen was our best offensive player last night and had a good game. He did have a poor last few minutes with missed shots and a turnover, but I still was far more confident watching the game with the ball in his hands than FVV's, who is actually in the prime of his career. He's still learning how to close meaningful games and has years of improvement ahead of him still. Let him work through the growing pains.
