Wondering if @Clutch thinks Sengun should be an all-star this season?

Alperen Sengun absolutely showed his value against Boston. Absolutely beautiful, intelligent defense, while spinning out dimes like he was prime Chris Paul.

Adams could not hang with what Boston was doing.

Now we need Alperen to bring that every night, not just half the nights. He is capable. Get that belly moving son.

He shouldn't be unless the Rockets have to have one.

Assuming Alperen is competing with Sabonis, individually, he's not yet as dominant in terms of statistics. However, as a great team complement, he provides excellent support in areas like defensive contributions, helping to run the team, organizing the game, and managing sets, all of which are important "team elements."

Additionally, one of the reasons his individual stats don't stand out as much is because Udoka positions him differently on the team compared to Sabonis and gives him a more supportive role. Alperen is an outstanding player with incredible basketball IQ, guiding finishers, preparing positions for them, and when necessary, he can finish plays himself.

All of these things, along with his physical battles in the paint and his occasionally "clumsy" style of play due to his old-school approach, may make him seem awkward at times. However, when you truly understand what he does and have a personal basketball background, you also know that when you're doing everything right, you won’t always have the energy to execute everything perfectly.

Alpi had better stats than Paul George and Kawhi last year. Didn't get in, presumably based on record. This year, his scoring is a bit down, but his advanced stats and the Rockets' record are great. Despite people saying it's Amen's team, the statistical production this year doesn't reflect that yet.

The Rockets have the 3rd best record in the league. Alpi gets double- and triple-teamed all the time.

Looking at all the advanced stats, he is top 10-15 in the NBA.

I think he should get in.

    But let's see.

I think he’s gonna make it this year. Simply because he’s the best and most impactful player on Rockets. Our record so far is no joke. Even though I’ lm starting to enjoy what Jalen is showing, it’s not yet close between them.

Personally, I’ve voted for him everyday last year. He got only one vote from me this season. I think it was Craig’ call made me feel bad and push me to do it.

I don’t enjoy his offensive production. He fell short of showing significant improvement on scoring actions. Oh well, I keep reminding myself he’s 22.

Curious to see the selection tmr.

The answer is no, obviously. 45 on Wemby’s dome followed by a b2b massive triple-double has Clutch reaching for Freddy’s phone number. If that doesn’t indicate Alperen’s potential, I don’t know what does. Alperen would have to go for 100.

But let me restate Alperen’s case:
    1. Number 1 on the Rockets in plus/minus.
    2. 5th in the NBA in fouls drawn.
    3. 18th most double teamed player in the NBA.
    4. Defensive metrics across the board.
To be clear, I will not be mad If Alperen doesn’t make it. Too many missed shots and inconsistency. We need another off-season of work.

Still, foundational player. HE WILL PUT IN THE WORK.

The starting C on a top 5 defense. Hasn’t missed a game. Once Hakeem walks through that door I will relent.

He hasn't played at an All-Star level this year. Even the most avid Sengun fan can admit that. He was more of one last year but didn't make it because the Rockets weren't good enough.

If he didn't miss a million bunnies at the rim he'd probably have no issue. He might make it considering the "well the Rockets are 2nd might as we'll give it to one of them" vote. He's been co-most important player this year along with Amen. He does have more of a case than anyone else on the roster though so if one has to it'd be him.

A day before the all-star reserves get announced.

Let's check in on where Alpi stands when it comes to advanced stats.

Net rating: 12th in NBA (at least 30 games played/at least 30 minutes per game)

Def rating: 7th in NBA (at least 30 games played/at least 30 minutes per game)

PIE: 10th in NBA (at least 30 games played/at least 30 minutes per game)

    BPM: 12th in NBA

    Win Shares: 14th in NBA

    VORP: 8th in NBA

    PER: 16th in NBA

    LEBRON: 17th in NBA

    HNI: 11th in NBA

    On/Off compared to other Rockets:

Are all the advanced stats lying? Or is he a top 16 player in the NBA and should be an all-star?

    @aelliott

    "lineup stats"

Then can you tell me if there are any stats (other than TS%) you believe have any significance?

Are all the advanced stats I quoted above "misleading"?

If so, why are Jokic, SGA, etc. near the top? And why is Sengun ranked higher than the other Rockets?

This guy is a freak and super annoying but I do at least appreciate that there is no pretense about being a rockets fan. He has tweeted very plainly that he is not a rockets fan, doesn't care about the rockets at all, and only cares about Alperen Sengun. I know the term SOF gets thrown around here as a pejorative but this guy is quite literally a SOF and is up front about it. So you at least know not to take any of his posts too seriously.

The craziest thing about being an only fan, it is as if there is an unwritten rule to complain about everything and blame everyone. Sengun has had a great career so far, have been in great company in terms of team mates both basketball wise and on a personal level, have a good coach, quite measured veterans like FVV, and has had team success and all these dudes are doing is complaining.

For a person like myself, it is easy to enjoy it because I like basketball. I am not a rockets fan because it is related to some sort of identification, which I have not had until this age. But that doesn't mean I do not support the rockets. I support the rockets with all my heart because I enjoy individual success as part of a team success and the current core is extremely likable, except maybe for Cam.

    Last 20 games:

    51%, 21%, 63%

    This is not acceptable.

This narrative needs to go. The Rockets can win games without Sengun. Take Amen or Jalen out & you go back to a losing team. Plus Jalen's the only starter that hasn't missed a game in 2 seasons
