Interesting from the Rockets perspective. I'm hesitant but no pain, not gain. The thought of a Fox, Green, Amen, Brook, Jabari lineup is frightening! The speed is a Killer. My ONLY draw back is Fox and Sabonis never paned out and Sengun is Sabonis, despite what many here contest. And they had shooting, which we don't, however we play defense, so I'm 50/50
In 2022-2023 playoffs, Fox averaged 27.4 pts/5.4 rbs/7.7 assists/2.2 steals per game which was better than his regular season numbers.
For once we're in agreement, I'm on the fence. The deal above makes sense on some levels for both teams, I'm just not sure on the Fox fit with Alpi and Amen. Can you really put those three on the floor at the same time on offense? How about if JG remains an average-or-better 3P shooter, and Fox can do what he did last season and hit 37% of his threes on volume? Would we be setting ourselves up for a bad situation where we have to break up the young core just to make everything fit together? Questions, questions.
Sac is 6th in PPG Hou is 13th Hou is 5th in Opponent PPG Sac is 20th so yeah Fox and Sabonis offense top 6 problem is they're bottom 11 in defense
Playoffs is totally different from regular games. I hope front office can make us be real contender by getting Fox.
Fox is better than FVV but he's a 30% usage player for his entire career that shoots 33% from 3. He doesn't make much sense for us to go out and acquire. JG and Sengun work well together now. Add in a 3rd ball dominant guy and it doesn’t make sense to me.
If the reports are accurate. Not going after Fox would be an extremely shortsighted move. Rockets will regret this decision. We need Fox.
Both JG and Sengun have huge weaknesses and will likely be very inconsistent in the playoffs. If you have a chance to land a star like Fox who has proven his worth in the playoffs, you need to go after him and try to build a team around him.

I mean, of course they do. They're 22 years old. That's something you have to develop and address, most guys aren't ready to carry a team in the playoffs until at least their mid-20s. Maybe they'll get there, maybe they won't, but our goal is not to win a championship this season, nor should it be. Our goal is to open a sustained window. That being the case, I think you prioritize the young core on the #3 team in the NBA. The question should be, "can Fox fit in with them?", not the other way around. If the answer is "no", you don't trade for him. I'm not sure that's the case--maybe it can be made to work. I'm 50/50 right now.
I'm torn on this too. I would love to roll into the playoffs with our current squad and see what they can do, and evaluate what changes need to be made in the offseason. That said, I have concerns about leaving a team like the Spurs to go out and get Fox. It's already going to be difficult getting past the Thunder in the post-season for years to come, I don't like the idea of the same being true of San Antonio. I'm concerned about Fox's lack of defense, usage rate and generally poor 3 point percentage, but enticed by the idea of watching a lineup of Fox, Jalen, Cam, Amen and Tari at the 5. They'd be running the court like goddamned gazelles.

That's the big argument in favor, obviously. Fox would be a clear upgrade over FVV on talent, and clearly the best player on the team (for now). He makes us better in a raw "add up the numbers" kind of way, no question. It's just a matter of, how much do you read into fit and the modern "space the floor damn it" paradigm.
truly massive sample size here. Fox averaging good stats in a playoff series against defensive savants Steph Curry, Jordan Poole, and Donte Divencenzo... color me impressed.
I don’t believe the current squad can develop into a championship team organically. A star of Fox’s calibre is just very hard to come by.
i think I’ve come to the conclusion that I’d rather spend the Fox money on our own guys. Bari, Tar, Amen all need to be extended. I don’t think we have to make a deal until Cam’s rookie scale contract comes up. We should be trying to add a good guard shooter in the offseason, but we don’t need a mega trade right now.
I get that, I really do. But I do think the circumstances are a little different. When the Hawks traded for Murray, there were an okay team desperately looking for a #2 to their flawed #1. When the Cavs traded for Mitchell, they were a really good team with a lot of talent looking for the final piece. I think we’re more comparable to the latter situation.
