I heard that the main concern with DEI is that everything should be merit-based. They want qualified people in positions. That's solid reasoning. However, the integrity of those advocating for merit-based outcomes falls apart when they support placing someone not qualified for the job in charge of the DoD - a $1 trillion enterprise and the backbone of our national security. This isn’t a joke; the DoD is the largest discretionary spending department and plays a critical role in safeguarding the country. FAFO at max level here. It should be led by someone with unquestionably superior qualifications, especially given the numerous highly qualified candidates available.
I’m wondering again if Trump needs a guy willing to flex some muscle in the Americas. Too much Chinese influence seeping into central and South America. Also, interviewing well can sometimes get you the job. Otherwise, why have interviews? Hire whoever you want, just make sure it isn't based on skin color or gender. That’s it.

Anyhow, I don't think the DoD is the right place to counter Chinese influence in the Americas since all they're doing is offering cheap financing and larger markets for extracting resources. And maybe some "off shore" manufacturing in Mexico to bypass US trade controls. That's mostly the job of Commerce with the backing of State and maybe Treasury. Hegseth has to worry about naval power/shipbuilding capabilities and the ungodly amount of leaks that has evaporated our 20 year lead since the 2000s into 3-5 years, an amount that could credibly be outgunned through manufacturing and attrition in a regional conflict around the Taiwan Strait...
The guy was never even real Army. He was National Guard who did a couple of tours. He is wholly unqualified.
Honestly DEI is really not a hill I will die on It helped White Women more than any other demographic (just like Affirmative Action) They put a brown or black face on it but the impact will be on white women more than anyone and 50+ percent of them voted for this Rocket River I cannot be mad about losing something I never got . . . .
